The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has announced that the long-awaited 3rd Governor Dickson National Wrestling Classics will now be staged in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, from the 15th to the 30th June 2019, reports Completesports.com.
The tournament will be staged at the Indoor Sports Hall of the newly refurbished Samson Siasia Sports Stadium in Yenagoa.
The event will also be used to select athletes that will represent Nigeria at the 12th All-Africa Games in Morocco and the 2019 World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan later in September this year.
According to the media statement from the wrestling federation, no fewer than 500 athletes and officials from different states and wrestling clubs around the country are expected in Yenagoa for the Classics.
Nigeria won the wrestling event at the last All-Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo four years ago claiming 19 medals comprising 9 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze.
The tournament will be preceded by a four-day international course for coaches and referees.
