Djokovic and Nadal Progress In Monte Carlo

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have both eased into the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-finals, but Cameron Norrie has crashed out.

The 31-year-old world number one and top seed, Djokovic, took just over an hour to see off the challenge of American Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-0 to set up a last-eight clash against Russian 10th seed Daniil Medvedev.

Second seed, Nadal, extended his winning run to 23 consecutive sets at the Masters 1000 tournament courtesy of a 6-4 6-1 victory against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov.

However, the 32-year-old Spaniard, who will now face Italian 11th seed Marco Cecchinato, did admit to being in some pain during the game – just a month after being forced to withdraw from the Sunshine Double because of a knee problem.

“I can’t pretend to don’t have pain at all,” Nadal said. “It’s a long time ago that professional players play normally without pain, because that’s part of the sport to the highest level and no limitations at all.” Meanwhile, Britain’s number two, Norrie, saw his run in the clay-court tournament come to an end as he lost 6-2 7-5 to big-serving Italian Lorenzo Sonego.
