Don’t Be Distracted – Weah Charges Osimhen To Win Ballon d’ Or, More Scudetto

Former AC Milan forward, George Weah has sent a congratulatory message to Victor Osimhen following the Nigerian remarkable performance for Napoli this season.

Osimhen surpassed Weah’s record as the highest scoring African in Serie A history after netting front the spot in Napoli’s 1-0 win against Fiorentina on Sunday.

The 24-year-old has scored 23 goals in 28 league appearances for the Partenopei this season.

“My heartfelt congratulations to you, Victor Osimhen! I am very glad that you have accomplished a major milestone in your football career, after scoring your 47th goal in the Italian Serie A league,” Weah wrote on his Facebook page.

“The records show that with this goal, which you netted on Sunday, May 7, 2023 when your team Napoli went against Fiorentina, effectively makes you the African with the highest scoring record in the Italian Serie A league – surpassing my own account of 46 goals.

“I am so proud of your exploits and congratulate you on this remarkable achievement which is a result of your hard work, dedication and tenacity. I am also pleased with your kind words of honor in tribute to me upon reaching such a giant milestone.”

“However, I want to admonish you not be contented. There are many more of my records for you to break. I wish you go on to achieve greater success.

“I watched your goal against Udinese when your 52nd -minute header won the Scudetto for Napoli. Your movement, your passion, your determination and hunger brought back many memories to me. I wait for your 100th Goal in all competitions in Italy so that you can celebrate (but don’t remove your shirt like I did or you will get a Yellow Card) 😀

“You have won one Scudetto. Great! When I won my first Scudetto with Milan, I said to myself, why one, why not two? I went on to win another Scudetto with Milan. I went on to win the Ballon D’or. So why not two or more for you Victor? The sky is your limit. With your dedication, commitment, humility, hard work, you can conquer the World. Africa needs another World Best. Africa needs another European Best. You Victor, can deliver that for us.

“The records that I set were meant not as a challenge, but as a motivation to you and other African Players. We have the best of talents. You have to remain humble, tenacious and focused. Don’t be distracted.

“There are many great African players in European leagues. They are already up against the hurdles of playing against many odds in leagues and stadiums so far away from home which present challenges for them; so to beat the odds and climb to the top is worth our commendation.

“May you continue to surge forward. My prayers are with you. My blessings are also with you. I am rooting for you Victor!

  • Future legend Osi-9, over to you. The legend has challenged you to win more. Put your mind and efforts into it.
Your goals can get the SE the ANC,qualify for the next W’cup and hopefully get to the finals.
    Congrats Osi9.

    • My guy forget Naija. Which kind Afcon? Do you know how much planning it took Napoli to get to this point? They used to be in Serie C, correct me if I’m wrong and then had a plan to bring back glory days. They got rid of overhyped and unmotivated players and had to instill discipline, cut their wages, create a smaller backroom staff and create togetherness with everyone working together. Also look at the coach’s tactical acumen, passion and experience. Do you really think this can ever happen in Super eagles. In SE osimehn does it all; defends, gets crosses in, closes down. In Napoli, the whole team works hard and they have quality every where. Please let’s not deceive ourselves. There’s nothing for super eagles until the whole nation, NFF, boards and investors take this football thing seriously. It took Napoli 3 years coming close to winning the Scudetto until they did it.

Look at the last time he played for Naija, he got injured and that almost messed up his season and his teams chances of winning the scudetto. Yet, he’s being owed bonuses and match payments. Did his team falter though? NO! They had Simeone, kava, and politano to carry on the goal responsibility. If he’s injured in SE today, do we have any quality replacements or alternatives?

Look at the comedian of a coach that was hired. Playing the same formation regardless of the opposition. No game plan, no hungry players invited, No tenacity.

We need to admit that SE is a shadow of the team it once was and with the corruption, unseriousness and lack of organization and vision we see today, this team won’t win anything until many things are rectified. Let Osimehn shine and let no one insult him like Ikpeba did when it comes to SE as one man can not carry the team. Let’s be honest most of our players are average or below and SE problems go beyond the playing field. I mean look at the unsung heroes in Napoli side like Lobotka, Anguissa, Kim etc. Rock solid team players.

Let’s just celebrate the young lad and wish him more accolades and not expect too much from SE because of Osimehn alone .

      So fun won.

Selfmade I know you’ll change your I.d and say many things, leave it for Nigerians to complain. When was the last time Ghana won a trophy at senior team? Where you born at that time???

Kbaba, Nigeria will win the next Afcon. We have the best strikers in Africa. Osimhen and Chuba Akpom will be great. Akpom is as good as Osimhen.

  • Nice, challenging and encouraging words from His excellency and a veteran of the round leather game, President George Opong Weah. Those words are to motivate and at the same challenge you to aim higher and achieve greater things in the round leather game. As His excellency rightly said that Africa awaits another world and European best footballer, which you can deliver to us. The world is at your feet. Go and take world. I wish you success.

Nija has no FA, no coach, hence no team.
Osimhen alone can not win you AFCON.

  • This is 2023 not 1993 Mr President…..No way a Napoli player is winning the Balon d’or in this era …….Such a player will have to Move Mountains and do the unthinkable…… Telling osimhen to stay and get old at Napoli is like telling him not to ever give a shot at the Balon d’or……Even ordinary CAF African footballer of the year award is not yet sure for him after this his remarkable fit…..just watch how CAF will dash Salah or Mane that award and interpret it to you in Good English…lolz…… Osimhen has to move higher if he wants to get to the next level…..He must play in a elite team like Bayern ,Madrid ,Barcelona,Man City,Man utd, Liverpool, Chelsea to get the recognition he deserves……I pray CAF stays honest this year and do the right thing to Osimhen because he deserves the award based on his efforts since the turn of the year.

Osimene will win Balon d’or whether you like it or not. Even Chuba Akpom can be nominated. Na person wey know, know. Don’t underrate Nigerian players.

      • Winning Balon d’or in Middlesbroug or Napoli is like a carmel passing through the eyes of a neddle my dear friend.

After Osimhen’s Napoli losing out on UCL semifinals I can say these two guys are worthy candidates as well,1. Mahrez who’s is inform for Mancity even though he didn’t play against Madrid and 2.En Nesyri World Cup exploits and scoring record with Sevilla even though they are mid table in Spain he scores at least once in every 3 matches and Sevilla has a chance to win the Europa League. I wish Osimhen wins it as a Nigerian for all his season effort for carrying Napoli to play solid soccer every single week. They where once Number 1 in European club Power ranking ahead of Mancity not until Osimhen got injured after playing for Nigeria. Napoli would not have lost to Milan if he was there. We could all see how he fashioned out a goal at the lost time against them despite the clamping down done by K jaer and Tomori. Oshimeh is worshipped in Naples and is the most expensive African Footballer as at today and Napoli might not want to sell him. Napoli can be better if they make some additions and they’ll win UCL if they keep improving their squad. For now I will let Caf decide but all with solids facts.
