Dortmund Chief Zorc Debunks Haaland To PSG Rumours

Borussia Dortmund director Michael Zorc has rubbished reports that Paris Saint-Germain could sign Erling Braut Haaland in the closing days of the summer transfer window.

The summer 2021 window has already seen Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo unexpectedly change clubs, and speculation continues to rage over the two players tipped to take over from that duo as world football’s biggest stars – Kylian Mbappe and Haaland.

Mbappe has told PSG that he wants to join Real Madrid, leaving the French outfit facing a dilemma over whether to cash in on the £154.2m offer currently on the table, or keep the Frenchman and risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer.

Reports have suggested that PSG would consider a €200m (£171m) bid for Haaland before Tuesday’s deadline should Mbappe leave for the Spanish capital, but Zorc has reiterated that the prolific 21-year-old is not for sale at any price.

Asked whether Dortmund could be tempted by such an offer, he told Kicker: “We are a football club, not a bank. Our position is very clear and did not change.

“I assume that we will now be confronted with wild rumours for another two days. Our position is clear, I don’t need to play the parrot all the time.”

Haaland has been linked with a host of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid themselves, and the race for his signature is only expected to intensify when a cut-price release clause in his current contract comes into play after this window closes on August 31.

The Norwegian has scored 63 goals in just 64 appearances for Dortmund since joining the club in January 2019.
