This is no longer coincidence or chance, but a strong statement of intention. This what you get when a good coach is allowed to do his work, no much interference from NBF or Minister. And he chooses the best available. No pressure to include home base.
Comparing with NFF, it is not surprising that since Rohr signed the new contract that mandates NFF to approve his list of player and mandated to include home base players and forced to have an Assistant in the person of Yobo, things have not been the same for our Eagles. The ease with which they dismantled strong opponents have somehow been reduced.
Let’s learn from basketball and retrace our steps. A word is enough for the wise.

Congrats to the DTigers, you are giving hope to dream in this Olympics.

Football in Nigeria and Basketball are two different things… Rohr accepting to allow NFF twist his arm every now and then should tell you he is more a politician than a professional coach… Look at the Musa Ahmed situation where the guy was not even kicking any ball. I don’t pity Rohr because he decided to do a devil’s deal with NFF… I have never seen where a Whiteman is owed seven months salary and remains unperturbed… NFF cannot sack him since he does not want to go himself from evident frustrations and had that taken care of with a $2million severance pay inserted in his contract… Making NFF resort to employment conditions frustration tactics… owe him salaries! I believe NFF and Rohr understand each other’s language…

” I have never seen where a whiteman is owed seven months salary and remains unperturbed..”

Maybe, one should stop looking at Rohr(and everyone else) by his(their) skin colour rather through his (their) personality and actions..

Maybe Rohr has been in Africa so long he understands how the system works here.

        Or

Maybe Rohr is in it for the name. He knows Nigeria is the best national team he has ever coached and might never have an opportunity coaching a good footballing nation that can actually win something. If Nigeria wins, that is a step up on his CV.
        Just maybe….

But I digress, this is about Basketball.

Again, all Kudos goes to the Kida led NBF. A well managed federation.
Respect and appreciation to Mike Brown and his team, D Tigers.
        Keep making us proud.
Nigeria needs positive news. Thanks for this..
We expect more great news from this team.
        It can only get better…

Hahahahaha…..why will you be perturbed by a salary which you dont depend on for survival not being paid…LMAOOooo.
Why will you be perturbed when you are beating people who think they are smart to their own game…?
Why will you be perturbed when you know NFF is just saving your cash for you and will eventually cough it out in as a huge lump sum when push comes to shove…?
Why will you be perturbed after many years of work experience in Africa, long enough to know that African FAs and owing expatriates emoluments are like siamese twins….LMAOooo.
Why will you be perturbed when you know an extra $2m awaits should agents of backwardness suffer a rush of blood to their heads….?

Rohr is winning this battle against his haters from all fronts….he has no reasons to be perturbed.
They stripped him of capable assistants ….no problem.
They put their houseboy who has a reputation of being used to cause problem for coaches during his playing day with ZERO idea of coaching as Asst Coach, houseboy nor even fit write common scouting report for the coach….LMAOOOooooo….no problem.
They refused to pay his players bonuses for 2 years….we no hear pim for camp….no problem.
They wanted to force a leadership crisis in camp, old fox stuck to his trusted capable all-time world cup scoring captain……no problem.
They wanted to force rag-tag homebased players down his throat, wise elder turned the tables against them and they went to disgrace themselves (both players and technical directors) in the US…….LMAOoooo…..no problem.

Still, unprecedented qualification for a major tournament with 2 games to spare. Still, maintaining top 3 status in Africa. Rohr is winning this battle against his haters from all fronts….he has no reasons to be perturbed.

They can keep saving his salary for him…..no problem. If they like, they should sabotage the 2022 WC qualification or our AFCON title bid because they want Rohr out…..na we go suffer am pass. Rohr will collect his balance at the end of the day.

Football is business Mr. Bigggg Business. Only an illiterate doesnt know that in 2021…..LMAOOOooo.

And if they like, they can take a cue from the NBBF and go the D’Tigers/D’Tigress way or continue to listen to their starved clueless sports minister, ex-this, ex-that, mathematical-this, economical-that….LMAOOoo. Common sense has never been common since time imo-river

@Mr.Hush and @Dr.Drey… I applaud you both for the clear piece from both of you to my response. The ensuing macabre dance between NFF and Rohr is actually a game of tricks of the mind between an ancient fox(Rohr… lol) and a Wolverine (NFF bunch)… I have personally not been too nice to Rohr I must say… however, even I personally feels, he is in the best position considering our (Nigeria) enevironment to see out his project to Qatar 2022! One love…

Wow. Impressive. We’ve got some serious ballers in this team. And they appear to be laser focused on winning a medal. Argentina is no small fry in world basketball. And they were beaten by quite a margin!
Good one, guys. Keep it up.

  • Our team is amazing, hope we see more fireworks in the Olympics… I have a good feeling about this guy’s… Their federation is well run and we all can see the fruits, similar to when our boy Rohr had freedom of selection in his first stint….

The NFF, The NBF; THE what nigeria is presently and the what nigeria is capable to be. NFF/ SPORTS MINISTRY please put pride aside and follow the NBF template. NIGERIA IS A SLEEPING GIANT IN SO MANY SPHERES. STOP GIVING NIGERIA FOOTBALL SLEEPING TABLETS NFF/SPORTS MINISTER. God bless to Kida lead NBF AND to all D TIGERS n most especially to the coaching staff lead by Mike Brown. You guys have made nigerians truly proud. A big big thanks to you all.

In the words of Gabe Nnamdi, “…we knew we could compete with them, we knew we could play with them, much of the world were shocked, but I don’t think we were very shocked…..Even when we were back into the lockeroom, it seemed just like a normal game….”

Yea, it will always look like a normal game because they are facing the same guys the rub shoulders with on weekly basis. When we say our footballers too should move to the top 5 leagues and play there regularly with the best on the planet, e get Y. They wont feel intimidated meeting them in the World cup or go running after them for jerseys in the middle of a match like Ezenwa was doing in Russia

Our own Jalil Okafor is teammate with US Dream Team star Jerami Grant at Detroit Pistons. Gabe Vincent, Chikezie Okpala and Precious Achiuwa are teammates with Bam Adebayo at Heats. Jordan Nwora shares the same dressing room with Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton at Bucks. That’s 4 US National team players already. Someone should tell me why they will feel inferior playing against them simply because they are wearing green jerseys with Nigeria written on it.

We are waiting for all those agents of backwardness led by their sports minister to come and complain about why Coach Mike Brown is depending on ready made stars from abroad rather than scouting the domestic league for their MANY TALENTS like coach Ayo Bakare did in the 90s….or they want to tell us we cant five 5 homebased basketball talents from a population of 200 million people…….? LMAOOOoo.

    • JimmyBall 3 years ago

Do we even have a functional basketball league in Nigeria? Lol… Honestly with the wealth and resources of this nation… games like Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Football, Basketball, Boxing and Swimming not to mention Athletics can be revolutionized with the right will and commitment… these games have big leagues and tournamnets across the Americas, Europe and Asia… I mean there are professional leagues… our own Aruna Quadri is a pro with a table tennis club in Germany… I am still scratching my head to fathom what is really wrong with us black people? Even when we have “expo” to copy and pass exam… we cannot even do it! Recently… it was survival of “Donkeys” being debated at the national assembly… I just give up!
