Eagles Euro Roundup: Ighalo Helps Man United Create EPL History In Win Vs Aston Villa; Troost-Ekong Benched In Udinese Away Win

Odion Ighalo was in action for Manchester United who made Premier League history in their 3-0 win at relegation threatened Aston Villa, in Thursday night’s game, Completesports.com reports.

Ighalo who is still looking for his first Premier League goal for Man United, was brought on for Anthony Martial in the 79th minute.

The win means Man United are the first team in Premier League history to win four consecutive games by a margin of three plus goals (Man Utd 3-0 Sheffield United, Brighton 0-3 Man Utd, Man Utd 5-2 Bournemouth, Aston Villa 0-3 Man Utd).

Bruno Fernandes opened scoring for Man United on 27 minutes from the penalty spot before Mason Greenwood doubled their lead in the 45th minute.

And in the 58th minute Paul Pogba added the third goal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side.

Man United stay in fifth position on 58 points but are now just one point behind Chelsea in fourth spot.

At Goodison Park, Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi featured in Everton’s 1-1 draw against Southampton.

However, Iwobi was replaced in the 46th minute by French defender Djibril Sidibe.

Southampton had the chance to take the lead on 28 minutes but James Ward-Prowse missed from the penalty spot.

In the 31st minute Danny Ings gave Southampton the lead before Richarlison equalised for Everton two minutes before the end of the first half.

In the Serie A, Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong was an unused substitute in Udinese’s 3-0 win at SPAL

Rodrigo De Paul (18th minute), Stefano Okaka (35th) and Kevin Lasagna (81st minute) were the scorers for Udinese.

The win move Udinese up to 14th on 35 points and they are now eight points clear from the relegation zone.

And in LaLiga Chidozie Awaziem was subbed on as relegation threatened Leganes held Eibar to a 0-0 away draw.

Awaziem’s Super Eagles and club teammate Kenneth Omeruo was not in action in the game which outcome did not do Leganes any favours in their quest to avoid relegation.

Awaziem was introduced with just one minutes left to play in the encounter.

With three games left in the league, Leganes remain in the relegation zone in 19th position on 29 points.

Their final three league games of the season are against Valencia, Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid.

Awazien the dreamer, so your team gonna defeat valencia, athletic and real madrid when you unable to defeat eibar? i follow this team a lot but i most say am never impress with awazien and omeruo contribution to there cause despite the multiple opportunity the coach gave them, each time the coach pair them at the back, the team always lost, they just need up there game, expecially omeruo that hardly feature in 3 consecutive game throughout the season.

You do realize that Omeruo is out with an injury right?  He’s been solid this season and if you truly watch leganes you would know this.  Don’t take my word for it, just search comments made by commentators and his coaches

I wonder why you’ll say this about Awaziem and Omeruo. If you follow Leganes performance in La Liga it’s easy to note that the clubs current predicament is not because of a porous defence, but rather a blunt attack. Leganes defence marshalled by Omeruo and Awaziem for most of the season has conceded less goals than at least 7 other teams in La Liga. The team has conceded 49 goals – better than Espanyol (55), Mallorca (59), Alaves (51), Eibar (51), Real Betis (55), Osasuna (50) and Valencia (51). The team has conceded less goals than 6 teams currently placed above them in the table.
On the other hand, Leganes attack has only managed to score 25 goals, the least in the league. Even bottom placed Espanyol has managed to score more goals (27). How can a team hope to earn points when they don’t score goals?
The teams problem is squarely the midfield and attack which one cannot blame on Awaziem and Omeruo who play in the defence. If anything, both players have done exceptionally well limiting the number of goals conceded due to a porous midfield that allows constant pressure on the defence. We should learn to avoid running down our players, especially in situations when they are not directly at fault.

Same Awaziem among the five players nominated as players of the season in Leganes.

Sadly,Troost Ekong’s place in Udinese is now on the bench, and his club has won a couple of games with him not playing a part.Ajayi too lost his starter’s place at West-Bromwich Albion.Awaxiem has lost his first team place as well.Balogun is now a championship player though doing well for his club.

The aforementioned players happens to be the linchpin of the super eagles defence and this players aren’t hugging the headlines.Apparently, they are experiencing a downhill slope.

This is not a cheering news for our dear super eagles.

Hopefully,in the coming season this players are able to up their game and reclaim their places in their respective teams otherwise they stand to lose their positions to the new defenders switching allegiances or commitment to Nigeria!

Bro, pls dont raise false alarm, matches are played every three days and most coaches rotate their players ,Troost Ekong played their previous game and sat out this one, there is nothing to it.Omeruo is injured, Last game he played, he was subbed after 5 mins and was replaced by Awaziem, the same Awaziem has been playing since then including 90 mins action against Barca whom they lost 0-1 to.Even Chukwueze, Aina, Iwobi Etebo are all being rotated, You cant play all the games full, thats why 5 changes are being allowed in a game to prevent burning out.

Master talk from you @ Emecco. Thumbs up man. We are too quick to raise dust over nothing. Teteye should be d way. Again national team football n club football are both different ball games.

@Emmeco.I’m particular about the players I mentioned adding more players to the list is just ridiculous!

I don’t come here and send a post for the sake of it neither are my a sentimental person who doesn’t see nothing wrong when a player is Nigerian.

I follow this players weekly, and the ones I mentioned are having game time issues.Ajayi started for West Bromwich Albion in their last game because the Egyptian who has leapfrogged him in the past few weeks got a marching order.West Bromwich Albino has struggled since the resumption of hostilities due to the pandemic and the coach decided to try a new pair in the backline which resulted to success with successive victories.Ekong too who was a constant feature a mainstay in Udinese backline is no longer indespensable.Awaziem too is finding game time hard I never mentioned Omeruo who is crocked at the moment and you shouldn’t put words in my mouth.

  • The problem facing Leganes is not the defense.

The biggest problem was with their main strikers En-Nesry to moving to Sevilla (January) and Braithwaite being poached by Barcelona after the close of the transfer window halfway in the season (February 2020)and and Leganes not allowed to replace them. These two players remain the highest goal scorers for Leganes this season. Omeruo got injured against Sevilla and was replaced in the 6th minute and not available for selection, he and Awaziem have been immense for Leganes.

Anybody measuring players by only their post-Covid appearances is just being over critical. Coaches have had to rotate their players as many of them are not 100% fit, this happened in Germany, Italy as well as in Spain and England. This is why we saw players like Awoniyi, Sarenren-Bazee and Iheanacho whos appearances were few and far between before the lockdown get much more game time after the resumption. It also meant that Awaziem, Troost who were almost permanent fixtures before the covid lockdown being rotated.

it prevents the players breaking down injured all over the place (like Omeruo and Balogun have been). At this time, football is just managing to complete and although clubs are focusing on finishing the season as best they can, most are looking firmly at restarting properly next season, ensuring the players comeback as fit as possible
