Former Nigerian international, Samson Siasia has revealed that the Super Eagles will struggle to make good impact at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 World Cup because the team is currently disorganised.
Siasia made this known in an interview with Channels TV, where he slammed Nigeria’s inability to beat Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
He stated that the players must be made to understand what it means to wear the green and white jersey of the nation.

“Like the majority of Nigerians, I am worried about the Eagles’ lackluster performances so far. Struggling against countries like Lesotho and Zimbabwe is not a good sign of a team ready to win the Africa Cup of Nations as well as qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” the former striker stated in an interview with Channels TV.
“Let us not deceive ourselves, we cannot be the best in Africa with this disorganised team. Our players must be made to understand what it means to wear the green and white jersey of the nation while the coach also needs to improve on the tactical approach.”
Siasia played 51 international matches for Nigeria, in which he scored thirteen goals, and was part of the team that participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and won the 1994 African Nations Cup.
He was also a member of the Nigerian team that won bronze at 1992 African Nations Cup in Senegal. He participated in the national team over a period of 11 years and was recognized in Nigeria as the third leading scorer for the national team.

Sisia it’s like you want an appointment from
The glass house, twice you were appointed to lead the super eagles, twice Nigeria failed to qualify for a major tournament.
Was the eagles organized during time? Ok
“Let us not deceive ourselves, we cannot be the best in Africa with this disorganised team. Our players must be made to understand what it means to wear the green and white jersey of the nation, while the coach also needs to improve on the tactical approach.”
I agree with you, Mr. Siasia. Only the wise ones can understand you better.
How I wish NFF would treat our indigenous coach like foriegn coach.
You have never enjoyed coaching the Super Eagles during your time. If I could remember, you were called twice to rescue Nigeria when the ship was down, but you did your best.
NFF are confused group of people. If not, they know that the current Super Eagles is not super at all because of the coach in charge. But the truth is bitter. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Thanks Omo9ja, he was on a rescue mission trying to flog the dead horses. They are using that to judge him.
His FIFA ban will be over next year August but to be honest there is a DEARTH OF
HIGH OCTANE LOCAL COACHES in Nigeria compared to South African local coaches.
You are welcome, coache. You see, gentlemen, NFF are behaving as if they do not hear or know the situation of the former Super Eagles coach. Coach Siasia has tried for this nation, but NFF cares for nobody. That is life for us all.
I am very sure of one thing, NFF will be the first to look for Sia1 when the gentleman is free from FIFA wahala.
For me, I know before now that
we were not ready for the World Cup qualifiers and Afcon. NFF
are just playing a political game that will backfire sooner or later. Hmm. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
As a player or as a coach? Please who relegated bayelsa united, what was mr siasia achievement when he coached the haruna lookman team that have so many stars how far did he went.
Twice he was called upon, twice Nigeria failed to qualify for nations cup, under him Nigeria ranking in FIFA became worse.
Then what are we to call keshi and amodu
Rescue mission that disorganized the team, if siasia was on rescue mission what will you call Rohr. When mr Rohr came on board the super eagles was on a hopeless state, did Rohr help to pieces like your siasia did twice. Nigeria only lost one game before he was appointed 2010/2011, which Rohr also lost one game did that stop Rohr from qualifying with games to spel tell me.
He took 2 in the under 20 world 2005, when he came back for second missionary journey with a team feel with stars what was his achievements tell.
What have he achieved as a coach of the senior national team he was appointed, tell me. The structure he build, the team he left for his successor
@Douglas you’re spitting nonsense. I think you’re high on wee this early hours of today. You’re just typing nonsense. Better stop disgracing yourself on the internet space.
Some people don’t know history. Anyway not their fault.history was banned before has it been unbanned… Even completesport didn’t include all information on siasia .. he won sliver with the u 20 and silver in Olympia u 23 and again bronze in u 23 Olympic.
Wen people said he didn’t qualify the team for afcon they forgot he was drafted in to save the team .and as water was too much in the garri.eba could not be formed..
If he had gotten the job from start he would have gotten enough points to qualify the team before the last game.
I watch Ghana and Zambia silenced on their home soil to get qualifications at different time for Olympics football with is style of play as a coach. Which coach ever done that with Nigeria team since pass years . Even fifa banning him is a suspect because dey must have reason the way this guy is going world cup could be heading to Africa and Nigeria .. hence the ban .. if not for Messi drama and fifa referee. The u 20 world cup and the Olympics football gold could have be won by his team .
If I were emilokan I wil invite fifa president and ask for the reduction of his remaining days of his ban so that he can take up the eagles job after the cote D’Ivoire 2023 competition.so that he wil take charge of the remaining games for the world cup qualifiers.even with 20000 dollar salary not the 60000 being wasted on a coach that don’t know history of African football.
@Sportradio88.0 fm, God bless you so much.
Oo mani mumi tayin kę. Because amumi tayin will realize that he just deceiving himself at the of the day. You have spoken well. I agree with what you said.
NFF and the Nigeria government are not thinking like us because of their selfishness.
Emilokan has the capability and ability to do so, but he has no time for that, and if we send a message to him, is he going to do it? I don’t know.
I’m just giving Emilokan a few more times to see if he is going to be different from Sai Baba, Sai Buhari. Otherwise, he will regret he forced his way in.
Between now and December this year, if NFF and Mr. President can act fast, who knows, Siasia can be free from FIFA and he can even lead us to Afcon just like he did when we went to Olympic with Mikel Obi when NFF, the debtor AJĘWOMASAN said they had no money. Mikel came to our rescue.
We have no good leadership. This is why Nigeria is struggling as a nation. Look at the way English FA handle their female team during the Women World Cup against Nigeria.
FIFA accepted England FA apologies and allowed James to play again, but if it was Nigeria, NFF wouldn’t make an attempt at all. Well, truth is bitter. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
What was his achievements as a coach of senior national team, bayelsa united what was his achievement there. Name one senior national team siasia has coached with achievement, Just one. The under great that their standard of playing is very low, how many of the players from the under grade come out in full potential
Please does this individual have the moral grounds to comment on Nigeria football..if I recall, we failed to qualify under is watch and also we saw is desperation during the infamous Giwa saga and not to mention is FIFA ban for match fixing
Olympic silver and bronze medalist, U20 silver medalist. Mention any African coach with better CV at the world level than this?
Coache the most people on this site are teenagers that is why they don’t know of Siasia’s accomplishments don’t be answering kids just leave them to continue wailing because Siaone will be back very soon!!!!
My adult siasia was remain the savior Nigeria have, please remind who send bayelsa united to relegation. When he was called to lead Nigeria in 2010/2011 Nigeria lost just one game, when the last game was at home just a win to qualify what happened mr adult.
Rohr lost his first match draw another another and still qualify Nigeria to nations cup. Rohr lost one draw one and still top the table to last World Cup that eguavon failed to qualify for us. Mr adult so Rohr now is a magician.
Steven keshi that carried the nations cup qualify us to World Cup is a ghost mr adult. Amodu that qualify us to nations cup twice is also a foreigner.
What was the nation of the team before Nigeria played the last game genuine that we draw at home, was there peace among the super ealges when siasia was the coach mr adult.
This was how you people cried for Rohr to be sacked, see where we found ourselves, continue
I will not judge a coach based on a stint with Local side Bayelsa United in a league that has this season sacked more than 12 corrupt referees for corruption and you’re here talking nonsense. If you don’t know football just be reading comments and observe instead of trying to feel among. Huh you’re not a great football observer and try to stay updated.
What of his record as coach of senior team, please name one achievement as a senior team coach, I am waiting
Name which Local active coach has a better trophy cabinet of playing philosophy than Samson Siasia. May I ask how old are you? Before we continue this conversation because I will carefully educate you told if you don’t go and do research about Samson Siasia.
CS edit option will be good my words are mis arranged and I’m seeing your page like a mobile view.
Edit: Name a Local active coach that has a better trophy cabinet or playing philosophy than Samson Siasia. May I ask how old are you? Before we continue this conversation because I will carefully educate you if you don’t go and do research about Samson Siasia.
My response to Sportradio88.0fm comment on Samson Siasia is the greatest indigenous coach Nigeria has ever produced. His teams show attacking flare. Just go and watch his U20 team’s annihilation of Belgium in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and you will be convinced about Siasia’s qualities as a coach. Like you rightly advocate, the Super Eagles job should be given to Samson Siasia after serving his so-called Fifa ban. He will definitely qualify Nigeria for the 2026 Fifa World Cup. Those who know Nigerian football believe in what Samson Siasia brings to the table. Case closed.
Omo leave some clowns on this page that will never see good but talk recklessly!!!
Until Nigeria coaches learn to get committed players in national team, our national team will continue to remain a training material, because they cannot compete. We are always crying only about Uzoho, yes I accept he is a flop, but what is Bassey doing in our national team, for me that guy has no business in our national team, Ajayi is very good, can pair with Omeruo, Ekong or even Balogun. Also Iwob suppose to start from bench. Ifeanyi Matthew, Yusuf, are far better committed players this iwobi. Players that started from local league. They know what is commitment, they are type of Garuba Lawal, Mutiu Adepoju. Even Lookman should be allowed to focus on his club football for now while Chukwueze also will be made to sit on bench until he learns to play with committed heart. This national team needs a total reshuffle or else we will continue to get the same result.let me ask , is Lesotho league better than Nigeria league yet Lesotho national team has more than 75percent of its national team from local league that whitsood all our foreign professionals, yet somebody will tell us he could not find a single goalkeeper or midfielder good enough for our national team, just because some people are not ready to work relying only on players in pages of newspapers what an irony. If Keshi could bench Igiebor who at that time plays for Real Betis and drafted aRangers player called Sunday Mbah and defeated almighty Coteivore and Burkina Faso. Until we get a coach who is ready to work and search out talent, this national team will be doomed, let us not fool ourselves. Our national team is full of uncommitted players.and never can we get result with these bunch of uncommitted players. FULL STOP
You are one of the problems of Nigerian football iwobi should start from the bench really
If dey ask u to put this following coaches in pot a b c d e
Rrohr , paceiro, siasia, Manu ,amununike amocakchi,oliseh, who wil u put in a b or c d e
Osaretin
Osaretin, in abc order, my picks for what the coaches have done for Nigerian football will be : (a) Siasia (b) Manu (c) Amunike (d) Amokachi (e) Rohr (f) Oliseh (g) Peseiro.
Sportradio88.0 fm. Among all the local coaches you mentioned Amokachi is the only one the cap fits. My reason is down to the fact that he has won an AFCON as an assistant coach under the late Stephen Keshi. However, I won’t compare him with any of the foreign coaches until probably after the exit of Peseiro depending on whether he will be allowed to take the team to the AFCON.
Rohr qualified us for the WorldCup when nobody gave us a chance in a group of death after failure to qualify for back to back AFCONs and he also qualified us for two consecutive AFCONs and won bronze in one. Our football is still struggling since he left.
Amunike was part of a coaching crew that failed to qualify for the AFCON and the WorldCup. Oliseh Bolted away when he saw defeat staring him in the face. Siasia and Manu’s successes are under age football where some 30 year olds can be masquerading as Under 17, 20 and 23 respectively.
My support will definitely go to the Bull. He’s the only one currently upgrading his skills as a coach assisted by Finidi who just won the Nigerian league with Enyimba albeit by the skin of his teeth. Shikena.
Siasia, Manu, Mikel and Enyeama are the people I miss when it comes to Nigeria football. What we have today are trash and bunch of unpatriotic people littered around the place!!!
We hear but can you name any better active local coach that has achieved better than him aside late Keshi or Ekpo who won a trophy in Albania?? I mean just 1 local coach that has better achievement than Coach Samson Siasia??? You people will just be talking anyhow!!! It is a waste of time coming on this page!!! A lot of you have no football appetite just trash talks. Yeye Forum!!!
There is no world I would support Siasia or an Amokachi to take the helms of the Eagles.
@ Dr Drey just reeled out Siasia’s record. With all due respect to Coach Samson, he has exceptionally failed at every occasion in charge of the Eagles. He never met his target.
And I don’t want to talk about his constant disaster as a club manager.
On what ground are we going to base his choice?!
Even on moral ground, I would be skeptical.
If push comes to shove and we got no other choice, Siasia could manage the under age teams. But should stay far away from the Super Eagles.
And as for Amokachi;what are his credentials. An assistant?
Respectfully, Amokachi is a political jobber and an opportunist. He can continue doing his political rounds and saying the ‘ nice things’ but should never be appointed as the Eagles Head coach. As an assistant? Ok. But never the main guy.
If one is being honest, the best coach that Nigeria had gotten since Keshi, is definitely Rohr. And we all know it is true.
The verdict is still out on Peseiro, but so far, he hasn’t proven jack so I wouldn’t share a tear if he leaves.
Mr Hush, lets not even talk about amokachi…..that one should just stick with his new found job as a bag carrier for politicians.
Its like some of you have forgotten that Amokachi was once our CHAN coach and failed to qualify for CHAN, once our U23 national coach (before he was relived of that job after as woeful WAFU tournament) and was once SE caretaker coach after Keshi was fired with terrible football and results to show for it. This is a guy who was assistant to Vogts, Amodu, Keshi and still didn’t learn nothing from them all
He was also player-coach of Nasarawa United and they also almost got relegated with Amokachi in charge.
When I tell you most of these 1994 tingods are overrated, it would sound as if I hate them. As footballers, yes, they were absolutely fantastic…but as coaches, they’ve all been largely unconvincing….too unconvincing that if we give a white man with the type of CVs they parade our SE job, all hell will let lose in that country. We must learn to separate our attachment from the 94 squad and look beyond them.
Even Maradona never became a good coach.
We call those white men that come to Africa to coach, journeymen, yet they parade CVs far better than what our so-called golden generation parade. If our local coaches parade good CV, I bet they will also be journeying across Africa and getting jobs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Amokachi being the Coach of Gambian National team, nor is it a crime if Eguavoen is the coach of Liberian National team, or Oliseh the coach of Namibian National team, Nor Amunike coach of the Ugandan national team….nor Siasia with all his ‘U’ medals coaching Sudan or Ethiopian or Madagascan national team.
But no…they must all be SE coach despite successive failures.
I have posed that question here before, and not any man born of a woman has dared to answer….and once again I pose the same question…..
“…if the white coaches we employ for our SE are “average” where then do we class our local coaches whom we claim are better than them…??”
And that is why the job of the national team coach of Benin republic will be available, and a 70yr old PE teacher will get it while these ones are fighting themselves to get favors from the NFF.
They are all too big to coach in the Nigerian league. The SE job has to be the starting point for them all…..LMAOoo
Amunuke
Dr Drey…can you not discuss with civility?… Why do you call people stupid, fools, idiots and dumb. I like your analysis and your football intelligence but you spoil and cancel every good thing you say with just a stroke of toxicity. I wonder if you are an adult because only kids of this new generation behave this way. Please take it easy nau… I come in peace……
This Drey, na wa for you o…..
Dr Drey since 2016, has Nigeria featured in the Olympic football event?
For your information Siasia was the first and only Nigerian coach to have ever beaten Brazil in Brazil. Before you start quoting U23 note that Brazil U23 cap is counted as a Senior cap. Brazil 0 : Nigeria 1. All those coaches you mentioned would collect Wotowoto from Brazil in Brazil overages or not. I don’t support cheating though. Look for the LACUNA in my write up and …..
Hahahaha…Brazil U23 cap is counted as senior cap…LMAOO. Where, when, how…?? Please give us the source of this your information let us also read it…..LMAOo
Lie of the century….LMAOoo
1st and only Nigeria coach to beat U23 in Brazil….LMAOoo. Tell him to write that in his CV and go use it to get a job elsewhere.
His umbilical cord is not tied to the NFF.
Why must it be with NFF alone he can only get jobs.
He obviously has an enviable CV according to you “…1st Nigerian coach to beat Brazil U23s in Brazil….LMAOoo…”, that sounds good enough to get him a job in East or Southern Africa…..LMAooo
You will tell us if SE is a ‘U’ team…LMAOoo
How about “first Nigerian coach to fail to qualify for ordinary afcon twice”….??
Beating Brazil in an U23 game has now become and achievement.
We can as well hire Guinea Bissau’s coach as the next SE coach for beating Nigeria SENIOR national team in Nigeria….LMAOoo
Nonsense.
Go and fill the lacuna in your brain first and …………
A man who has won league titles in different countries, won the CAF CL multiple times with different clubs, won a medal at the club world cup and brought a club back to the 1st division from 2nd division in his very 1st season in charge is again sounding out his interest in the SE job if new from toher outlets are anything to go buy, yet some charlatans are fronting ‘U’ tournament specialist who relegated 3 clubs as the 1st Nigerian to defeat brazil u23, to become next SE coach…..LMAooo.
Common sense indeed is not common.
If we like, we humble ourselves and get that guy. Yes he is black, so I see no reason why that should be a problem. I don’t care if he is South African, or Cameroonian or Ghanaian, or a citizen of any of our bitter rivals……THE MAN IS FAR MORE COMPETENT THAN ANY OF OUR LOCAL COACHES DEAD OR ALIVE.
That’s all that matters to me…!
Rantings and jokes apart Pitso is over qualified for the job. He has managed ego players at Mamelodi Sundowns and a great tactician……He has psychological higi haga with Nigerian players playing in his team’s. But club football differs from National team.
I rate Pitso.
The guy definitely has better cv than all our ex international cum coaches that parade themselves all the time on sporting media.
My worry with him, knowing NFA how they owe coaches and SA is in our WC group. Hope he will be professional enough not to sell the WC ticket to his country men.
As much as I appreciate Samson Siasia’s feats for the country; he should stick to underage football. That’s his niche. He simply hasn’t cut it with the Senior national side.
It is not like he hasn’t been given the opportunity with the Eagles before. He failed!
What justifies an Eguavoen’s crucifixion when we are clamouring for a Siasia, who equally failed! I simply don’t get the logic.
As @ Dr Drey had laid to bare every coaching record of Siasia and Amokachi out there, it’s quite hilarious to me, people keep putting their name out there for the Eagles’ job.
And I totally agree with @Dr Drey, respectfully, most of our 94 squad are overrated ,more so, entitled.
Yes. They served the country with distinction and for that they hold a place in our hearts and our appreciation but to feel we owe them the Senior national team job is simply ludicrous! On what merit I may ask. On what credential? As a player or a coach?
Even as a coach, have they proven yourself, do they have the experience?
Come on now, this is the Super Eagles we are talking about!
The great late Stephen Keshi had to prove himself with Togo and Mali before taking the helms of our Eagles and that’s why he had the experience to succeed. He never came in hand in cap feeling entitled like we owed him a job! No. He got the job by his merit.
And as earlier pointed out, Siasia, Eguavoen had all gotten opportunities to manage the Super Eagles and drastically failed. So what are we talking about.
I read somewhere that Pitso, the overachieving South African, former coach of Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly of Egypt, is enthusiastic of going to a world cup and from his sayings, one could sense he is overly open to coaching the Eagles if given the opportunity. And I say this with all respect, he would have my support.
I have stated, if we are letting go of Peseiro, and lack the finances for a quality international coach, nothing is stopping us from looking around the continent to get someone good enough ti manage our team . Atleast they would be affordable, understand the terrain, have the ethics to work and more importantly, have the resumè. Not forgetting ambitious.
Due to precedence, I simply don’t trust most of our local coaches. If we are even thinking of going the Nigerian route, we should be mentioning names like Egbo, Utaka etc. not a Siasia, Amokachi…
This is the Super Eagles we are talking about.
Yes…. Pitso, Utaka, Egbo and I’ll add Olofinjana….
I really don’t get people’s obsession with Siasia when any remarkable success he’s had is with age-grade teams. Keshi, Amuneke, and even Eguavoen have better pedigree at the senior coaching level than him, both in playing style and results.
Siasia is probably at sane technical level with Oliseh at senior game. Besides, what about the heavy match-fixing allegations.
Amuneke qualified a senior team for Afcon fir the first time in 25 years and is World Cup winner. No scandal. Keshi won Afcon and coached the team to R16. Eguavoen has worked with several coaches and at several levels with appreciable or mixed results. Finidi has had successes with Enyimba, same with Igunmodede at Remo Stars, Kennedy Boboye etc.
These are quality indigenous coaches or with try people like Saintleff of the Gambia.
If Nigeria fails to get Pitso Mosimane, then we are jokers. That guy is the real deal. If he was a white man, he will be coaching in the premier league or a top club. Bad ass tactician, great motivator and has a world class team of assistants that have worked with him. Much better than Saintfield. Same levels with Rene Havre Nigeria presently has no indigenous coach to bring out the best from the present super eagles. 94 set are enemies and negative distraction to super eagles. Achieved nothing in coaching excluding Keshi. We should be careful or we will miss another worldcup.
Thank you and God bless you…..Pitso is it….
