Eagles Roundup: Chukwueze Ends Laliga Goal Drought In Villarreal’s Win Vs Valladolid; Iheanacho Benched As Leicester Thrash Leeds Away

Samuel Chukwueze netted his first goal of the season and ended his Laliga goal drought, after scoring in Villarreal’s 2-0 home win against Real Valladolid on Monday night, Completesports.com reports.

The last time Chukwueze scored in Spain’s top flight was in November 2019 in a 3-1 home defeat to Celta Vigo.

Chukwueze opened scoring for Vilarreal in the 21st minute before Pau Torres added the second goal on 37 minutes.

The Super Eagles winger was later replaced by Takefusa Kubo in the 64th minute.

The win took Villarreal to third on 15 points in the Laliga table.

The Yellow Submarines have now gone undefeated in their last seven games in all competitions.

In the Premier League, Kelechi Iheanacho was an unused substitute for Leicester City who thrashed Leeds United 4-1 at Elland Road.

A brace from Youri Tielemans and a goal each from Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes, sealed the win for the Foxes.

Barnes broke the deadlock in the 2nd minute while Tielemans added the second goal on 21 minutes.

Leeds pulled a goal back three minutes into the second half but Vardy restored Leicester’s two-goal advantage by making it 3-1 on 76 minutes.

And in the 90th minute Tielemans scored from the penalty spot, his second of the game, to end the game 4-1 in favour of Leicester.

Leicester now climb to second on 15 points with Leeds in 12th position on 10 points in the league table.

In the German Bundesliga, Kevin Akpoguma was in action for Hoffenheim who lost 3-1 at home to Taiwo Awoniyi’s Union Berlin.

Akpoguma played for 90 minutes while Awoniyi was replaced in the 77th minute.

Hoffenheim are now winless in their last four Bundesliga games  (three defeats, one draw). Their last victory was the 4-1 win against Bayern Munich in September.

For Union Berlin, they are unbeaten in their last six games (three wins, three draws).

Hoffenheim are 12th on seven points on the log while Union Berlin occupy seventh spot on nine points.

And in Turkey, Olanrewaju Kayode featured for Sivasspor who held Hatayspor to a 1-1 away draw in the Super Lig.

The draw ended Sivasspor’s run of three straight defeats.

Kayode who was in the starting eleven for Sivasspor was later withdrawn with 13 minutes left in the game.

It was his fourth league appearance for Sivasspor without a goal. However, he has scored two goals in the Europa League.

Nice one, Chuks. His performance was good today. His game is getting more mature and purposeful. Keep it up. Also, he should keep working on the use of that right foot.
That is what will take his game to the next level.
As for Iheanacho, hope your agent has started earning his salary! Go and play your football elsewhere.

That was a great goal by Chukwueze leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.Iheanacho has to really think of his future because Vardy is not slowing down and the manager is losing faith in him.

Agreed Vardy is a better striker and a legend for Leicester and his consistency means he will always be the first on the list because he earned it.So for this very reason Nacho should move on since the coach play with one striker.I would agree if Nacho is in his 30’s at that age one could afford to be a squad member but not a player who is still 24 and playing well.At 24 he’s at his prime and should be playing not wasting his prime years on the bench.

Do not let Rodgers define your future you have to speak out,you have to make things clear. Is either a starters spot or you should get loaned out to a team you are sure of commanding regular football or get sold outrightly!I wish I’m close to this young man to talk some sense into him.

Nacho we the super eagles fans love you and want to watch you paint Europe red with goals and you cant do that getting benched every league game what a waste of talent! It’s depressing only to watch you in your position on the bench every weekend. What a shame, what a waste of talent.

@Greenturf… good talk. Iheanacho deserves to be in the Super Eagles mix anyday from his talent and what he can do. But sitting week-in week-out on the bench at a very young age really makes it hard for anyone to continue to make a case for him in Eagles… What will be the justification for inviting him and not others playing regularly for their clubs. So, honestly this is a troubling situation… if we need to spread and allow a level playing field to everyone doing well at their clubs.

I think Rodgers wants to be using him the way he used Moses at Liverpool. When they’re in trouble or needs a spark in a difficult game he can turn to Iheanacho and bring him in as an impact sub, which in the Nigerian perspective may be detrimental to the SuperEagles.

No doubt Kelechi has nothing to prove at this point in his career as he has proven time and again that he’s a great finisher in and around the box. His performance last week in the Europa League makes it difficult for me to understand why he can’t at least get some minutes in the last two league games.

Inevitably, now is the time for him to reach his promising potential by commanding regular shirt in his club. Obviously Kelechi will have his opportunities this season cause he’s got the talent. However, I will implore him to move on from Leicester if possible in the next window. But his current predicament doesn’t exclude him from the present SuperEagles set up.

@Ayphillydegreat… I agree with you because Kelechi whenever fit is a threat in games. It beats me how Manuel Pellegrini so trusted him and encouraged him almost like a son which is why he flourished so well with him. Guardiola often has little trust and patience for players he least respects… Brendan Rogers has also thowed exactly the same actions… we know Vardy is good but Kelechi is meant also to be getting substantial minutes… if the lack of trust continues with Rogers, Kelechi should try to leave leicester latest by June 2020 at season end. I want to even believe his game will be very suited to Spain and Germany.

June 2020 don pass na. Abi you be Marty Mcfly?

        • pompei 3 years ago

Hehehehe! McFly of Back To The Future sef no fit do this one. For Kele to quit Leicester City by June 2020 latest, some serious backwards time travel is required! No wahala, Elon Musk will soon invent a device that can travel back in time to the past, lol!

  • Nice one chukwueze, we expect more goals from you this season. Your playing regularly and your team is doing well so you need to up your game and become indispensable to the team. Score goals and create goals aplenty and maybe someday soon a big club will meet your 80m transfer fee.
Nice goal scored also to Aina, keep it up. Work on your defensive side be more stronger against tougher opponent’s and you will be a complete modern day full back.
Iheanacho really needs to have a serious talk with rodgers about his future and if he doesn’t get the answer he wants, he should talk to his agent. I know players like vardy, Barnes are in great form and are getting goals aplenty but you dont confine a talented player like kele who scores and creates goals to the bench for the whole 90mins. You only refer to him when your main striker is down or your in a tight spot during a game. It really isn’t helping keles game.he should be in a team where he is playing week in and out. If Leicester wont guarantee him that, then let him move on LOAN to a team like west brom or fulham where they need Good strikers and where he will play regular football.
Union berlin seems to be doing well in the bundesliga and Taiwo Awoniyi seems to be playing regularly but I haven’t heard that he scored for the team this season. He needs to step up his game if he hopes to break in to the Super Eagles team in the near future.

  • I just get surprised and blown away when some on our forum use him as a scape goat calling for him to start from bench in SE when, in actual fact he is our most lethal winger followed by Chidera Ejuke ( from the cameo’s I have seen so far).

Sammu you are a danger man and as they say in SPAIN the most promising winger in La Liga you and Tako Kubo and Super Eagles is blessed to have you. Keep proving Nigerian Doubters wrong.

    Well done
