Eagles Roundup: Ejuke, Nwakaeme On Target; Ajayi Bags Assist For Al Ahly, Mikel Sees Red

Chidera Ejuke scored and bagged an assist in Heerenven’s 3–2 away win against Twente at the De Groslch Veste, Enschede on Saturday night, reports Completesports.com.

Ejuke scored Heerenven’s second goal of the game and provided the assist for Joey Veerman’s third.

The 22-year-old has now scored nine goals in 24 league appearances for his club this season.

In another Dutch Eredivisie game, Cyriel Dessers was unable to add to his 15 goal league tally as Heracles Almelo were held to a 0-0 at ADO Den Haag.

In the CAF Champions League, Junior Ajayi registered an assist as Al Ahly beat South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final fixture at the Cairo International Stadium.

Ajayi set up Ali Malooul’s opening goal in the 53rd minute.

In Turkey, former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi was sent off for the third time in his career during Saturday’s Super Lig clash between Trabzonspor and Rizespor.

The Black Sea Storm cruised to a 5-2 triumph but the Nigerian’s dismissal overshadowed Huseyin Cimsir’s team’s celebration.

Dario Melnjak had handed the visitors a 1-0 lead at half-time, however, Trabzonspor played the last 45 minutes like a house on fire with Manuel Da Costa, Caleb Ekuban, Jose Sosa and Anthony Nwakaeme all finding the net.

With victory already assured, Mikel was given his marching orders for a second caution for stopping Ogulcan Caglayan’s goal-bound shot with his arm.

Ol Boy, you leave Dessers out? That guy who is a dancer and scores goals for fun?

Ejuke is really good. So good, that I am beginning to be afraid that if we don’t cap the guy, Holland might be interested. I like his explosive, all action style. If you are a lazy or weak fullback, Ejuke is your worst nightmare. He will mess you up.

      And where is Ndidi

  • You are on point. But I want to see the game with SL before I will rate them because we rate by match to play

Our forward line is loaded to the brim with quality strikers like Osimhen, Dessers, Dennis, Iheanacho, Sadiq Umar, etc. Having said that, I find myself wondering what more NWAKAEME has to do to get another chance in the Super Eagles. He was invited in the past, but did not really get a chance to show himself. And after that brief opportunity, the door closed. This guy is perhaps the most consistent striker we’ve had in the past 5 years at club level. From 2015, he was shaking the net at Hapoel Beer Sheva, and continues to do so in 2020 at Trabzonspor. A reliable source of goals. Grabbing goals not only in the domestic league, but also in Europe, against top rated competition. Based on current form, I’m certain he is among the pool of players Rohr is looking at for possible selection.

Ejike will take Iwobi Jersey all day, I think he would be a good attacking midfielder, I vet been  screaming is name for two years, hopefully we won’t loose the guy to Norway or Holland.

No need for this comparison so that the day you’ll make a good submission you won’t be ridiculed! I wish there was delete option so that you can delete this comment.

  • There’s one thing the English press do very well, celebrate and overhype their (average) players. On a second thought, i think it will be a good tapping into idea. We have an Ejike who is playing top flight football in the Eredivisie with a good record of goals return and assists as a winger. But the NFF are not looking his way with Mr. Amaju scrambling to have the duo of championship’s Osayi and Eze who are playing hide and seek with him play for SE. “A case of abandoning the ailment to treat the cure”. Yes he was invited to the failed Imama led U-23 Olympics team but the competition was not on FIFA’s calendar and besides his team mentioned that his performance is a good for a senior team invitation.

It’s pleasing to have GOOD foreign born players in our national team and I’m not against the NFF approaching these players. These players should not be begged and made significant. They are adults and we should please respect their decisions. The truth is not all of them would be capped by the three Lions or their country of births. Sooner or later reality will dawn on them. Akpom and Ejaria have shown commitment and their international clearance are being processed. Once courted Adarabioyo is now flirting with the NFF/SE.

Jordon Ibe was approached in the past and he decided to bid his time. I pray he gets the chance with them. Arnault Danjuma dramatically turned his back on us. I’m not sure if hes played for the orange again after that cameo appearance for them. But honestly we shouldn’t hold it against these players. Lets celebrate what’s ours and make do with what we have. I think extending an invitation to Ejuke at this point is well deserved before we lose him. David Alaba and Emmanuel Olisadebe are classical examples.

He is playing regularly for a big dautch team in the eredivise. …I am beginning to wonder what other criteria is needed to inject him Ejuke and Dessers in this very explosive and young super eaglespecially team. Please NFF and My super Rhor, do the needful and make your fans happy.
