Eguavoen: Eagles Job Tough To Handle

Super Eagles interim coach, Austine Eguavoen has disclosed that managing the senior national team is the most toughest job he has ever handle.

Eguavoen made this known in an interview with Elegbete TV, where he said that Nigerians are very demanding and don’t settle for less.

Recall that Eguavoen took Nigeria to the round of 16 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nation, where they lost 1-0 to Tunisia.

“It’s very very tough. Very tough because we are humans and are very demanding.

“And we are a football nation which is normal. We don’t want to settle for less. We always want to go for the best and by so doing, we want to win every trophy available.

“To be saddled with that responsibility I think is a very tough one. There’ll be critics everywhere, left, right and centre definitely but the ability to be able to hold on and shed most things away and remain focused determines a lot.

“We will remain focused but our only appeal to people is to not discourage us but always encourage and support because things like this, if a person isn’t strong, can throw him off guard but I am focused and I know I have a lot of fans out there. Thumbs up to them. I love everybody and we’ll celebrate together after the two-legged games,” Eguavoen told Elegbete TV.

Ndidi just went out injured now against Rennes. I think it’s time to callup Obinna Nwobodo or Bonke. Frank Onyeka is not it… PARTEY will end Frank Onyeka career if they field him in place of Ndidi to marshal our midfield.

YOU DON’T NEED TO BE COMPLAINING BY NOW.
EVERY COACHES SHOULD KNOW THAT IF THEY ARE COACHING NIGERIA SUPER EAGLE, THEY MUST BE READY TO FACE WAR OF CRITICISM. YOU NIGERIANS GANG AGAINST GERNOT ROHR. THEN YOU TOO, THEY MUST GANG AGAINST YOU ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE NOT JUST AND SENTIMENTAL IN PLAYERS SELECTIONS.

    • Diran 2 years ago

Coaches Eguavoen/Amunike, with all these injuries cropping up a few days to the World cup playoffs against Ghana, it is not too late to draft in Innocent Bonke for an injured Ndidi in defensive midfield; and Awaziem for an injured Omeruo in defence. Bonke is a no-nonsense defensive midfielder who can shield the defence against the likes of Thomas Partey and company.

Nigerians will not forgive you guys if you fail to select the right players for this playoff games against Ghana. Thanks

Are we sure Ndidi is willing to face Partey, because that injuring looks fake to me.Anyway time go tell, we need him and Etebo to face Partey and his crew in that midfield.@JimmyBall, you’re right bro Partey will eat Onyeka for lunch.

Why wouldn’t be though coach Eguavoen?

You are making the work difficult for yourself.

You refuse to select the best squad for Nigeria.

You are very confused like Oga Rohr during his time. No disrespect to both of you.

We don’t even know if you are rebuilding the team now or you just want to qualify for the World Cup and gets knock out in the group stages like Oga Rohr did in Russia.

Yes no doubt you have so many fans out there but we are not convinced enough about your selections.

You have bn biased. Kai, how would you prefer Ighalo to Dessers? Do you have to travel to watch Dessers live before you can have him in the team?

You lied that you have seen more of Dessers but Dessers can’t stop scoring goals every week.

You called Onazi back and you are expecting Nigerians to be happy with you ba? Ah, are you kidding me kę?

You claimed that you can not risk Adeleye against Ghana but you can risk Okoye, Uzoho and Akpeyi?

Can’t you learn from coach Waldrum ni?

Plumptre played against Ivory Coast and she did very fanterbulous in both encounters. Can’t you see the way Nigerians were shanty Oyinbo…. Oyinbo….. Oyinbo…. That showed that Plumptre did a great job both in Nigeria and in Ivory Coast against the Ivory Coast.

He, the coach Waldrum benched his key players in Ivory Coast in the first half and brought them back in the second half and now, Nigeria have qualified for the Afcon.

Why Nigerians did not singing Ighalo’s name against Cape Verde? We don’t follow people blindly. No.

Am sorry, I don’t celebrate failure. I am not happy with you at all. We have so many inform players at the moment but why are you doing this to yourself coach Eguavoen?

Ighalo and Onazi were not part of the Nigerian squad world cup qualifiers but Super Eagles made it so far but why now?

Do you want Oga Rohr followers to be making fun of us?

They are pretending now as if they like you but if you fail to beat Ghana and qualify for the World Cup chai, I am deeply sorry for you coach Eguavoen.

You have chosen money over your image. You are letting Amaju that have nothing to offer Nigeria pushing you around just like that?

Can’t you see Cisse ni ba? That Senegal coach have represented his country well at the Afcon in Cameroon and if they qualify to the world cup, they will represent Africa very well but you and your company are here bringing the retired players back into the Super Eagles when our young talented, elegant, smart, energetic, workaholic and very amazing players are ready to make Nigeria and Africa proud?

It is a pity if you don’t know coach. So disappointing reading this your statement now. You fall my hands big time coach Eguavoen. God bless Nigeria!!!

It obvious you are pained but sha take heart.

      • Bosun 2 years ago

@Samue: That is one good thing about the boy. He has no option than to love Nigeria.

  • Innocent Bonke should please be brought in now to the main team if Ndidi is unable to feature in both World cup playoff legs. Using Onazi who has not played for years in the super Eagles and plays in division 2 Saudi team will be a dangerous gamble as Thomas Partey and co will make ridicule of him in midfield. Thanks

  • Lolz. May be this coach that is raising everybody ‘hands’ should also say, “Thumps up Ghana fans” . LMFAO!

  • Sir please don’t be discourage give us. Good tactics Ghana Is out of the game ROHR was never discourage in Algeria game good game plan and not 4-4-2, express yourself

  • No Nigerian coach has what it takes to lead a team like the super eagles . Eguavoen has already already failed with his sentimental selections and stupid excuses given on certain invited players which is typical of a Nigerian coach. Corruption everywhere which also includes that babalawo bearded looking Amaju Pinnic. May God help us and hopefully put to rest finally on any Nigerian coach tinkering the national team. On our qualifying for World Cup the gaffer already failed even before kick off. My opinion as always

  • All that Rohr needed was be more attacking minded, allowing his players entertain the fan old man said laye. Now here we are

  • Larry 2 years ago

At least Roar started on a great path.. inviting our best available players for all matches in his first term until Picnic introduced him to bribery and corruption and we started seeing strange names and preservation of spots for underperforming players..
I will advise you to review your list again and do the needful.. Replace Shehu, Ighalo, Sadiq, Etebo, Omeruo with Al-hassan Yussuf, Awoniyi, Olayinka/Desser, Bonke/Nwobodo, and Akpoguma/Awaziem.
On current form and SE pattern.

    Okoye

    Aina Balo/Ako Ajayi/Awaz Zaidu

    Ndidi/Onyeka. Bonke/Al-hassan

    Chukz/Amoo Simon/Lookman

    Aribo/Iwobi

    Awo/Nacho/Yinka Osimhen/Desser

This team will beat Ghana by 3 nil or any African team anytime anyday anywhere..

    • But no corruption and sentiment won’t let them see road. More reasons why no indigenous Coach will go far.
