Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma hailed his players for sticking to their game plan in Thursday’s 3-0 win against Rangers – a Nigeria Professional Football League rescheduled match at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port-Harcourt, reports Completesports.com.
Malachi Ohawume, Jimoh Oni and substitute Nelson Esor were on target for Rivers United in the keenly contested encounter.
It was, by far, the best performance of a resurgent United side this season after they were controversially denied a win in their last home fixture against Sunshine Stars.
It was the first time Rangers lost in the league by more than a goal margin this season.
Eguma who could not hide his delight heaped plaudits on his players for carrying out his instructions.
“It was a good game and a good performance against a very strong Rangers side that are top of the league (Group A) standings,” Eguma told Rivers United’s official website after the game.
“We studied their games, mapped out the strategy to clip (their wings) in Port Harcourt.
“My players were very focused to get the job done and this result is a very motivating one for the football club,” Eguma said.
Rivers United with the win moved up to fifth in the NPFL standings with 23 points from 16 matches while Rangers remain at the summit of the division with 23 points after navigating the same number of fixtures as their conquerors.
