Egypt Coach Queiroz: We Only Started Playing In The Second- Half Against Super Eagles

Egypt head coach Carlos Queiroz admitted that his side produced a weak display in the first half of their 1-0 defeat to Nigeria on Tuesday night, reports Completesports.com.

The seven-time champions were totally outplayed in the first half as they struggled to cope with the pace of the Nigerians in the Group D clash.

Kelechi Iheanacho netted the winning goal for Nigeria on the half hour mark following an assist from Joe Aribo

Queiroz stated that his team were inferior to the Super Eagles and need to produce a better display in subsequent games against Guinea-Bissau and Sudan.

“The performance in the first-half was very poor, and that’s the truth, we weren’t on the pitch,” Queiroz said during his interaction with the media after the game.

“We only started playing in the second-half. There’s no clear reason behind this failure and defeat against Nigeria.

“We lost this match but there are still six points up for grabs against Sudan and Guinea-Bissau in order to qualify from the group.”

  • Coach Queiroz, we also realized that Coach Eguavoen defeated you hands down.

Na wa o …Egpgt Coach don changs mouth, LMAO….some1 that was boasting of playing 7 matches and winning all is now praying, permutating and hoping to qualify from the group. Lmao hahahaha…Indeed football is play on the pitch not in the mouth. I so much like the way Egu spoke. He said we are going to play every game like a final and we will take it game by game” what a speech.

  • Truth! some ingloramous will not see this but rather praising their “own” to high heaven simply cos of hatred for former coach. Yes the first half was good but second half was a bit good which if Egypt had been a good team they would have punished us. The team won and the play was a little bit different they praise Egu but if it was Rohr they will say it is because of players brilliant. One can all see how the players responded by being more hungrier to proof a point which they too alluded to when the rohr sack saga first started. If rohr had been in charge today the result would have still be like this no doubt about that, but be that as it may it is Eguavon era and as a Nigerian let’s enjoy this winning and hoping for better result as the competition progress as said by Egu during the post match interview. It look it’s coming home doesn’t it? Lol

    • @Tayo,
Shame on you. You still get mouth to talk instead of you to hide your face in shame.

When last did Super Eagles gave Nigerians good football like what the boys did today.

You are one of those people waiting for Eguavoen to fail and I knew that you wanted Egypt to beat Nigeria in order to defend you master; Rohr.

      God has shamed you already.

      Congrats Nigeria.

      • It is you that should bury your head in shame nothing do me with or without rohr am a super eagles fan but I hate injustice. Most of you comments is purely hatred for that man. There are so many matches he played during his time that performance were good and better than this and you truly know that but sentiment and hate will not let you. Even the last competition he came 3rd and had a very good and entertaining game against South Africa, Cameroon, Algeria even though we lost and Tunisia all these countries are way better than this Egyptian team of today. Go watch those matches and compare. I used only Afcon matches for you to know if your memory fail you. Am in support of Eguavon whether he succeed or not but I won’t be part of injustice to another simply cos he is not our “own”. It is you and your likes that always complain because whether you like it or not down time will come in just like rohr era eguavon can not win all the matches and let me tell you there is nothing spectacular in today’s match except they won cos they only did well in the first half second half was usual self which they need to work on otherwise they will be punish against a good team. The team is not yet there the Egyptian coach was right ball possession at the end was 57 to 43% in favour of Egypt though eagles were technically better.

This Tayo guy is a bastard!!!

          • U are a bastard and you av always been don’t worry you will soon come back and do your usual wailing. U may say whatever now I will be here idiot. Why discrediting someone simply cos eagles won against poor team who offer no real attack for over 90 minute and jumping up and down lubbish

You should know the mumu was in dream land, Don’t know the game he was watching. Maybe obalende united and Agege FC. Wonder what is comment would have been if nigeria had scored all the chances they had.

Let fall and rise with our own
      Say no to foreign coaches
Is waste of money and draining the economy that is already bleeding.
Just pay Egu 1/5th of Rhor’s salary and see what will be the outcome.
We don’t need them in our national team
NFF pls send that man back to Mourhino . We don’t need him.
      No money for such expenses.

    • Please try as much as possible to forget Rhor and support the team you claim to love so much

    • My bro, Rhor’s era is done and dusted. He had his chances but blew it. Don’t you see purposeful football, tactical awareness and fielding players based on form. You think Rhor would have played Omerou or made such changes as at when it was needed.

For a long time, super eagles played purposeful and result oriented football.

Shame on Rhor and his supporters. I hope they bow their heads in shame. It’s not just about the fact that we won today’s match. It’s about how the team played and this is what we had been clamoring for years but Rhor supporters were always attacking anyone that criticized their tin god.Imagine the hogwash comments the old fashioned mechanic made today just to proved that he is truly a clueless dumbass and i hope his supporters can come out and defend him as they used to. Today we could all see that the difference is so clear. You can’t give what you don’t have. Life is garbage in and garbage out (GIGO) . I just hate the fact that these bunch of corrupt NFF members knew all along that our local coaches could do the job better but because of how much they keep stealing our money through their foreign coach scam they wouldn’t do the right thing.if it were not the case why do they always employ dead ass foreign coaches with wack track records? Rhor was a big scam and NFF wouldn’t have sacked him if they were still benefiting as much as they used to.Rhor is a fraudster just like his fellow criminal NFF president and members that need to be arrested and investigated.

… And to imagine coach Eguavoen could this feat with 2 weeks, speaks volume of what to expect should the NFF gives him 4 years to train the team.

Despite missing Denni, Osimhen, Dessers, Etebo, Onuachu, Akpogunma,Bassey, Amoo……. I would say cancell Pesero’s appointment

WC play off too dangerous for a coach who is new to African football and doesn’t have a good track record but if the contract is signed then we are in for it lol.

  • The Super Eagles struggled badly to defend aerial balls at times under Rohr. Under Eguavoen, every player is defending headers. Even Iwobi executed a headed clearance in the few minutes he spent on the pitch.

This augurs well for the Super Eagles defensive plots.

Are we going to witness another 9 points group stage Afcon outcome? A record for Nigeria and a record broken by Eguavoen on his own record set in 2006?

As both an attacking and defensive proposition, this Super Eagles looked like a formidable outfit today.

The likes of Ejuke and Moses Simon should dial it back sometimes. If they had elected to cross rather than shoot today, Nigeria could have bested Egypt with more than 1 goal.
