Emery Hails Starlets After Bayern Win

Arsenal boss Unai Emery hailed his young stars after they wrapped up a 2-1 over Bayern Munich in the United States. Eddie Nketiah proved to be the match winner as the Gunners made it two wins from two on their pre-season tour.

After a goalless first half, Emery’s side took the lead four minutes after the restart when Louis Poznanski diverted Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cross into his own goal before Robert Lewandowski equalised with a fine header.

The match looked to be heading for a draw before young forward Tyreece John-Jules worked his way down the left side of the Bayern penalty box to cut the ball back for Nketiah to tap home two minutes from time. “It was an important match for them, each match and each training to give us their performance and energy,” Emery said.

“We have a responsibility with young players to give them chances. We want to use different young players. “They will be with us in pre-season and some with us in the season. Each can show a performance like today. It is important to show against big players, like Nketiah v Sule, to show how they can respond in one v one situations with different opponents.” Next up in the International Champions Cup for Arsenal is a meeting with Fiorentina on Saturday.
