Dennis, Osimhen Chase Martins’ Champions League Goal Record

Emmanuel Dennis and Victor Osimhen will continue their quest to surpass Obafemi Martins’ record as the highest scoring Nigerian in the UEFA Champions League in the matchday-three games of the 2019/20 edition’s group phase, reports Completesports.com.

Martins, who featured in the Champions League in the past for Italian club, Inter Milan, Wolfsburg of Germany and Russia’s Rubin Kazan currently holds the record of highest scoring Nigerian player with 10 goals.

He is closely followed by Julius Aghahowa, Emmanuel Emenike, Victor Ikpeba and Yakubu Aiyegbeni who scored seven goals each.

Dennis, who plays for Belgian club, Club Brugge has scored four two goals in the competition and only trails Ahmed Musa (six goals) Brown Ideye( five goals) and Nwankwo Kanu (five goals) on the goal chart.

The 21-year-old bagged a brace in Brugge’s 2-2 away draw against Real Madrid on matchday two.

Brugge are home to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Osimhen, who has enjoyed a prolific goal streak with French Ligue 1 outfit, Lille since his summer arrival from Sporting Charleroi has one Champions League goal in two appearances for his club.

He will look to move close to the record when Lille host Valencia on Wednesday.
