End Of The Line For Sims

Toronto’s former Warrington prop forward Ashton Sims has announced this season will be his last and he will retire at the end of the campaign.

The 34-year-old has had a distinguished career, with over 350 appearances at clubs in Australia and the UK before finishing up at Toronto, where he has helped them pick up the Championship title.

He will now try and help the Canadian side achieve their ultimate aim of a place in Super League at the end-of-season play-offs before hanging up his boots for one final time.

“Humbled, undeserving and grateful are the words that come to mind when I reflect on 17 years of professional rugby league,” he said.

“To my hometown and junior club Gerringong Lions – you taught me discipline, respect for the game and internal drive to succeed. “To my parents – thank you for the driving manners, respect and work ethic.

“To St George Illawarra, Brisbane, North Queensland, Warrington, Toronto and Fiji Bati – you have helped turn me into the man I am today. Words can’t describe the sense of pride I feel when I reflect on the times I wore your badges.

“To all the team-mates, coaches and backroom staff – you’ve all made my an impact in my life, and I’ve got so much love and respect for each of you.

“I’m not the perfect person, but I’m striving to be every day for you guys. If I’ve inspired just one kid to play rugby league then I’m a happy man.”
