England Skipper ‘Fine’ After Scare

England Skipper ‘Fine’ After Scare

Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale says England captain Joe Root is “fine” after sustaining an injury to his hand on Sunday.

The 28-year-old picked up the injury to his left hand when diving to stop a powerful drive from Nottinghamshire’s Joe Clarke in the latter stages of day three.

Root remained on the field for a short period in the aftermath before receiving treatment and eventually deciding to withdraw from the action.

But Gale insists Root is “fine” and claims the decision to skip the rest of the day at Trent Bridge was just precautionary.

Gale said: “He’s fine, he’s just strapped it up and is icing it, it’s precautionary really.

“He’ll be fine tomorrow.” With the World Cup set to start next month, followed by the Ashes, England fans will be hoping to see Root back on the field sooner rather than later.
