Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has provided clarity on why Bradley Barcola was sold to Premier League giants Anfield in a deal worth £123 million.
Enrique explained that Barcola, who made 49 appearances in all competitions last season – scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists – was eager for a more central role in the starting eleven after significantly raising his profile since joining PSG from Lyon.
Speaking about the transfer, Enrique said (via Yahoo Sports): “His case is a bit different for me because he has grown immensely in Paris since his arrival from Lyon. Furthermore, he has greatly improved the team with his performance.
“His desire was to play a more important role in the side, something I could not guarantee him. Ultimately, I believe everyone benefits from this situation. I accept it and wish him all the best. We are very happy to start the season with this squad.”
Enrique further elaborated on the player’s mindset prior to the move, stating: “He wanted to leave because he wanted more minutes and a greater role in the team. And that is something I cannot guarantee to any player, because you have to earn it in training and in matches.
“He has been very important, and he is a player who is greatly loved by his team-mates. It’s difficult for everyone because Bradley is an incredible person. I’ve only spoken positively about him. In the future, it will be normal for players who have been very important to the team to leave, but that’s life, you have to accept it.”

Liverpool see Barcola as a priority reinforcement to restore attacking potency and star quality after finishing fifth the prior season.
