Wolfsburg have terminated Christian Eriksen’s contract by mutual consent, the club have announced.
The decision comes three months after the midfielder collapsed on the pitch while playing for Denmark.
Eriksen later reassured fans after their friendly against Ukraine was abandoned in June.
According to talkSPORT, the 34-year-old has not played since, with Wolfsburg already six matches into the new 2. Bundesliga season.
They have now announced Eriksen has left the club in order to be closer to his family in Denmark.
In a statement, Eriksen said: “Right now, it’s important for me to be close to my family in Denmark.
“I’m happy that we were able to find a solution together. My time in Wolfsburg was marked by many highs and lows.

“I know that the club is now in good hands to make the journey back to the Bundesliga, and I’m convinced that VfL has a successful future ahead of it.
“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported me at VfL and in Wolfsburg.
“It was a great pleasure to play for you, and I will fondly remember this time.”
Eriksen joined Wolfsburg in September 2025 on an initial two-year deal following his release by Manchester United.

He went on to make 34 appearances for the club last season, scoring three goals and providing 10 assists.
However, he was unable to help the club avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.
Wolfsburg dropped out of the top-flight after an aggregate defeat to Paderborn in the play-off, ending their 29-year stay in the division.
Despite leaving the club, Eriksen has not retired from professional football.
Following his collapse in June, Wolfsburg had revealed he was on a pathway to return to the pitch.
The incident marked the second time Eriksen had collapsed whilst playing for Denmark.
He suffered a cardiac arrest during their match against Finland at Euro 2020 five years ago.
Eriksen was subsequently fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) before returning to football with Brentford in January 2022.
The ICD’s intervention was what caused him to regain consciousness after his collapse earlier this year.
After receiving medical treatment, Eriksen was able to walk off the pitch.
