Euro 2024: There Was No Match-Fixing Between Romania, Slovakia — Iordanescu

The head coach of Romania, Edward Iordanescu, has debunked a report circulating in the media that they fixed the game for Slovakia in the Euro 2024.

Recall that both Romania and Slovakia played out a 1-1 draw on Wednesday to qualify for the Round of 16 of the competition.

Romania finished top of the group with four points ahead of Belgium, who drew 0-0 with Ukraine, while Slovakia advanced as one of the best third-placed teams.

However, in a chat with ESPN, Iordanescu stated that both teams played for victory and there was no element of manipulation in the game.

“I believe it was clear that both teams gave everything for 80 minutes,” Iordanescu told reporters.

“Everybody gave their best. To speak before a game and to throw mud to the teams and to the players and to our work and to our dignity is shameful.”
