Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has said his team had a bad day, following their 3-2 home loss to Sporting Lagos, in week 9 of the EUROMATCH NPFL on Sunday.
Sporting Lagos End Plateau United’s Perfect Home Record
The Jos-based team suffered their first home loss in this season’s campaign, having won their four home fixtures prior to Sunday’s encounter.
Ogunbote’s side went into halftime 2-1 ahead thanks to a brace from Victor Dawa, canceling out Aliyu Baba’s opener for Sporting Lagos on 10 minutes.
In the 53rd minute Victor Samuel made it 2-2 then with 10 minutes left Plateau United were reduced to 10 men.
Sporting Lagos capitalised on the one man advantage and got the winner on 82 minutes thanks to Aondona Adeede.
The win saw Sporting Lagos (15 points) climb one spot above Plateau United (14 points) to third place in the league table.

“I think it was a difficult one for us, I won’t say complacency because the boys put in their very best unfortunately we gave up the lead and things fell apart,” Ogunbote said in his post-match presser.
“The only thing is that we had a bad day today but we will take the positives from it to tell us that it’s a lesson for us to brace up.”
Thoughts On Sporting Lagos
Ogunbote praised Sporting Lagos, admitting they were at their best.
“Sometimes one game is not enough but they (Sporting Lagos) did very well, they were at their best today.”
Wake Up Call
He added that the defeat would serve as a wake up call for his team.
“This is week nine, unfortunately, nobody wanted to lose the game but we lost. Even a draw would have still been termed as a loss to us. But like I did say it’s good it happened early so that it would make every one of us to wake up, to know that we have not gotten there yet.”
