Europa: Arsenal Pick Quarter-finals Ticket Despite Home Defeat Vs Olympiacos, Spurs Crash Out

Arsenal confirmed their place in the Europa League quarter-finals despite losing the second leg of their Round of 16 tie with Olympiacos 1-0 at the Emirates on Thursday night.

Arsenal headed into the tie with a 3-1 advantage from the first leg, with Olympiacos needing to match their three away goals to stand any chance of overturning the fixture.

After a goalless first half Olympiacos broke the deadlock in the 51st minutes through Youssef El-Arabi who picked out the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

The Gunners could have put themselves back in a more comfortable position when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang raced through one-on-one on goal but as he tried to dink the Olympiacos keeper, his effort sailed wide.

Olympiacos’ efforts to get back into the game was eventually ended when a red card was shown to Ousseyno Ba.

And in Croatia, Tottenham Hotspur surrendered a 2-0 first-leg lead to crash out of the Europa League after falling to a 3-0 defeat after extra time to Dinamo Zagreb.

Mislav Orsic was the hero for Dinamo as he netted a hat-trick to send his side into the last eight.

Dinamo’s preparations for the game were thrown into disarray when their coach was jailed for fraud.

Meanwhile, Roma and Granada also advanced into the quarter-finals at the expense of Shakhtar Donetsk and Molde respectively.
