Samuel Chukwueze was in action before going off injured as Villarreal held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates and qualify for the final of this season’s UEFA Europa League.
Chukwueze was having a fine game before the injury and was stretched off on 29 minutes and was replaced by 18-year-old Yeremi Pino.
Arsenal needed just one goal but were unable to claw back a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, hence crashing out in the hands of Villarreal who are handled by Gunners former coach Unai Emery.
The result means Arsenal’s 25-year run in Europe has come to an end.
And in Rome, Manchester United progressed into the final despite losing 3-2 to AS Roma.
The Red Devils advanced 8-5 on aggregate after winning the first leg 6-2 at Old Trafford.
Edinson Cavani bagged a brace for United while an Alex Telles one goal and goals from Edin Dzeko and Bryan Cristante secured the win for Roma.
The final will hold in Poland on Wednesday May 26.
