Alex Iwobi put up an impressive performance as Arsenal booked a spot in the round of 16 of the Europa League following a 3-0 home win against BATE Borisov at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, Completesports.com reports.
Iwobi featured for the entire 90 minutes in the round of the 32 contest with the Gunners edging the tie 3-1 on aggregate having lost 1-0 in the first leg a week ago.
Zakhar Volkov conceded an own goal in the fourth minute with Skhodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos getting the other goals for the home team.
In another round of 32 game, Victor Moses was also on for 90 minutes as his Turkish club, Fenerbahce crashed out of the competition following a 3-1 defeat to Russia’ s Zenit St Petersburg.
Fenerbahce lost out 3-1 on aggregate failing to build on their 1-0 win in the first leg.
Sardar Azmoun got a brace for Zenit with Magomed Ozdoev also on target for the hosts.
Mehmet Topal scored Fenerbahce’s only goal of the encounter.
At the Stadio San Paolo, Stephen Odey failed to rescue Swiss side, FC Zurich who crashed out of the competition following a 2-0 loss to Italian club, Napoli.
Zurich were edged out 5-1 on aggregate having lost the first leg at home 2-1.
Odey started the game and was replaced by Lavdim Zumberi on the hour mark.
Kayode Olanrewaju featured for only 10 minutes in Shakhtar Donestk’s 4-1 defeat against German club, Eintracht Frankfurt at the Commerzbank-Arena.
Kayode came in for Viktor Kovalenko 10 minutes from time with Shakhtar bowing out 6-3 on aggregate.
Villareal secured their passage into the next round following a 2-1 aggregate win against Portugal ‘ s Sporting Lisbon after they were held to a 1-1 draw in the game.
Samuel Chukwueze was not listed for action in the encounter played at the
Estadio de la Cerámica.
