Everton Lead Defender Signing Race

Everton Lead Defender Signing Race

Everton are reported to be leading the race to sign Getafe defender Djene Dakonam as boss Marco Silva looks to bolster his backline. The Toffees boss is said to be on the look-out for a new defender as doubts surround the future of loan star Kurt Zouma, and Dakonam is said to be on his list of targets.

Dakonam was a revelation for Getafe last season as they managed to finish fifth in La Liga, just outside of the Champions League places, and his form has not gone unnoticed. The 27-year-old is also said to be on the wanted list of Premier League rivals Arsenal, but cash is tight for the Gunners, which reports claim puts Everton in the box seat.

Getafe are keen to keep hold of the player and build for next season but it is thought that an offer in the region of £30million would be too good to turn down. The Toffees are able to go that high, but it is claimed Arsenal couldn’t, so a switch to Goodison Park looks to be the more likely option of the two.
