Everton Links With Duo Dismissed

Everton director of football Marcel Brands has played down suggestions the Toffees will sign Eredivisie stars David Neres and Hirving Lozano in the summer.

Brazilian attacker Neres has starred in Ajax’s run to this season’s Champions League semi-finals and is one of several players being linked with a move away from the Dutch league leaders.

Lozano, a star for Mexico at last year’s World Cup, has long been linked with the Goodison Park outfit and the fact that Brands helped bring Lozano to his current club, PSV Eindhoven, may have something to do with that.

Speaking to Dutch TV station NOS, Brands said: “That (players being linked) always happens during this period. “I read about Neres, I read about Lozano.

You name them, but we have no contact with these players.” The 57-year-old, appointed last summer, also highlighted that any money Everton splash this summer needs to spent wisely.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has released plenty of transfer funds over the past two years but much has been frittered away, with signings such as Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez failing to cut it in the Premier League.

Brands added: “The fact that you can spend money means that you have to be much more careful. “If you make a mistake here, you will hardly be able to get rid of them. “Players earn a lot of money and there are not many clubs that can handle such salaries or transfer fees.”
