Everton scouted FC Basel centre-back Eray Comert again last week and are stepping up their pursuit of the Switzerland Under-21 star. The reporter for Swiss newspaper Blick tweeted the news that the Toffees sent a scout to the Letzigrund for the midweek meeting between Basel and FC Zurich a week ago.

Comert, 21, was linked to Everton in February when it was claimed that he was a ‘concrete target’ for both Everton and Arsenal. And the young central defender did his chances of earning a move to Goodison Park no harm at all by putting in a man-of-the-match display as Basel ran out 2-0 winners over the hosts.
Comert, who holds dual Turkish and Swiss citizenship, has one year left on his contract at St Jakob Park and certainly fits the profile of what most people think a Marcel Brands signing ought to look like. He has rejected two extension offers from Basel and could be a £7million target in the summer.
