Former Liverpool and Norway star left-back John Arne Riise and his daughter were hospitalised after being involved in a car accident at 2am on Tuesday night.
The pair were on the way back to Alesund, having been to Tonsberg, when Riise was forced to swerve off the road, hitting his car into the railings at the side of the road.
Both Riise and his 19-year-old daughter Ariana were still conscious when they were taken to the hospital. They were released from hospital on Wednesday morning.
According to Riise’s agent, Erland Bakke, speaking with Norwegian outlet Dagbladet: “He drove her home to Ålesund, and just before they arrived, something on the road caused John Arne Riise to quickly turn left, and drive into the road rails.
“Both are well under the circumstances, they will remain in the hospital until this morning.”
There is no suspicion that anything criminal has happened.
“We have some idea of what has happened, but we must first hear from those involved,” said Sindre Molnes of the police.
The local police department tweeted on Tuesday night: ‘#Alesund notification of traffic accident on the access road.
“One car involved, located on the side in the middle of the roadway. Two people in the car, both are out and conscious. Unknown extent of damage. Emergency vehicles on the road.”
Riise, who was capped 110 times by his country Norway, spent seven seasons with Liverpool between 2001 and 2008.
He featured in the famous Champions League final win in Istanbul against a star-studded AC Milan in 2005, providing the assist for the start of Liverpool’s comeback.
He also won the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield during his time at Anfield.
Riise also represented the likes of Monaco, Roma and Fulham during his playing career before retiring in 2017.
Ariana is Riise’s first child, the daughter of his childhood sweetheart Guri Havnevik and was born in 2001.
Riise divorced Guri in 2004 before marrying Maria Elvegard in 2010, who he had another daughter – Emma – and a son Patrick with before divorcing in 2012.
He then married Louise Angelica in 2014 and the pair welcomed a son – Colin – in 2019.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
