Former Manchester United star Scott McTominay, who currently plays for Serie A club Napoli, will undergo a surgical procedure to treat an irregular heartbeat.
Napoli, who disclosed this on Tuesday, added that McTominay will be out until after the season’s first international break, meaning he won’t play again until October.
“Following the development of a minor, benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay over the coming days will undergo an operation a PFA (pulsed field ablation),” Napoli said (via AP News).
A PFA is a minimally invasive technique used to treat heart arrhythmias.
The 29-year-old McTominay was Serie A’s MVP when he helped Napoli win the title in 2025. He played for Scotland at this year’s World Cup.
McTominay exited during the second half of Napoli’s 2-1 loss to Como on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Mctominay has opened up about his heart surgery, insisting it is not something of major concern.
Speaking on Wednesday, he told reporters: “I’m fine, the procedure was something I’d planned to do with the club for quite a while. We’d already talked about it in pre-season, I’ll be out for a few weeks.”
He also posted on Instagram: “See you soon Napoli. I won’t take long.”
Speculation around his future has also continued, with the midfielder now a key figure in Napoli’s engine room. Asked about contract talks, he confessed: “There haven’t been any new talks.
“The important thing is what happens on the pitch, not the contract extension. I don’t know when it will happen, it’s not the time to be thinking about that.”
