Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has backed Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria President Bola Tinubu, to head the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), completesports.com reports.
Martins stated this amid a leadership crisis in Nigerian football, which led to the resignation of Ibrahim Musa Gusau resigned along with the general secretary and other executive committee members.
The resignations comes following the disappointing outings by the country’s national teams in qualifiers and at major international tournaments.
President Tinubu directed a comprehensive overhaul of Nigerian football administration, elections were suspended, and interim arrangements (including an acting general secretary) were put in place.
Also among notable names in the hat for the vacant NFF president post include legendary Nigeria winger Segun Odegbami and proprietor of Remo Stars Kunle Soname.
Speaking on the ObiOne Podcast, Martins called for younger leadership that understands both the game and the broader system, positing that Seyi will be a good choice.
“We just need someone that can help. A young person that understands the game, and the system that can help us,” Martins, who represented Nigeria at three AFCONs (2006, 2008, 2010) and the 2010 FIFA World Cup said.

“I think Seyi Tinubu can do that too. He’s young and understands what Nigerian people want. He can change that if he wants to.”
Seyi, 40, is a lawyer by training, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and active figure in youth mobilisation and politics.
His sports profile is that of an enthusiast, recreational participant (especially polo), and financial/promotional supporter of grassroots and community-level activities across football and other sports.
This differs significantly from the typical profiles of past or prospective NFF leaders, who often have deeper experience as former players, coaches, club administrators, or long-term football officials.
Meanwhile, there is no indication that Seyi has publicly expressed interest in or is actively campaigning for the NFF presidency.

Many Nigerians, no matter their position in the society are sycophants. What does Seyi Tinubu know about football? They talk nonsense just to line their pockets.
Lol. Why not ask Yusuf Buhari to come and become NFF president. Clown
My love for Obagoal is deep but he has really messed up with this suggestion. Enough of the Bootlicking we know who the cap fits.
Hon Kunle Soname of BLFA will change the country’s football into world beaters and he be assisted by Chief Segun Odegbami will crown it all. Enough of the back and forth stuffs we must wake up as nations and leave politics out of football.
Is it really Obafemi Martins that made this comment?
Abi na AI?
We have so many seasoned, battle tested, competent options! Emenalo in particular is the name that easily comes to mind. Yet Martins approves the selection of an individual who knows nothing, nada about football? Who’s biggest involvement in football is playing monkey post games with his mates?
Why take a gamble, when bankable options are available? Astute business men will never choose a gamble over a sure option!
Ok na, let the NEPO BABY try if he’s elected. Let’s see what he can do.
Once again, a man’s last name is the criteria that is used to select a candidate, instead of merit and competence.
We now see why Gusau and co. retired. They had no choice. The order came from OGA AT THE TOP.
We say the government is corrupt, but see one of our own, a former player for that matter, YARNING OPATA!
NA WAYA!!!!!!

Some people’s brain need to be reexamined.
To even think the suppose outspoken MIKEL said nothing to that mumu idea make me sick, so all those MIKEL gra gra is for nothing, I expect him to instantly against such idea from OBAFEMI, like how did OBA even process such idea self? ST as how noa.
