Exclusive: 2022 WCQ: Super Eagles Loss To CAR Will Serve As Wake-Up Call -Unuanel

Former Kwara United coach, Samson Unuanel says the Super Eagles 1-0 loss against the Central Africa Republic (CAR) in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers will serve as a wake up call to the technical crew and the players.

Nigeria’s unbeaten record of 25 games without losing a World Cup qualifier at home came to a shocking end on Thursday evening.

The result also ends Gernot Rohr’s unbeaten record as Super Eagles coach in World Cup qualifiers. Nigeria went into the game as the clear favourites, with 90 spots sitting between the two sides in the FIFA rankings.

However, in an interview with Completesports.com, Unuanel stated that Nigeria’s defeat is an indication that there are no minnows in football again.

“It’s a pity that the Super Eagles lost to a tiny country like the Central Africa Republic at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. I am sure that nobody expected this result considering the array of talents in our disposal.

“Well, this is football. It will definitely serve as a wake up call for the players and the technical crew ahead of the reverse fixture. They must do everything possible to beat CAR in a bid to redeem their image.”

  • How many times are we going to be taking about wake up call Against Cameron we said it’s wake up call. Against Sierra Leone 4:4 we said it’s wake up call. Now it’s another wake up call. Let the truth be told, our players are not serious when it comes to playing for Super Eagles. Moses Simon for example can’t play the way he did today in Nantes colour. Likewise, Toast Ekpong played horriblly with Balogun for their respective clubs. It seriously a big shame to them first, the No Future Ambition NFF and the coach. Why is it that they always raise Nigerian fans hope only to always dash it when it matter most. Central African Republic CAR rated 147. The players should go and learn from Morocco who trashed thier opponent 5:0 yesterday.i.e Equitarial Guinea. The players should note this will definitely affect the FIFA monthly ranking. The players should also note that this is becoming continuous occurrence and Nigerians are not happy about this development. please always show commitment when playing for Nigeria exactly the way you do it at your clubs. I am not happy at all. This is a public distance and completely unacceptable from the players. Got bless Nigeria.

What rubbish wake up call are these assholes talking about. They’ve not learned their lessons . Both Pinnock and his coaches should look at themselves in shame .

Time to ring some changes. If I was Rohr I will pair Awaziem and Ekong. Balogun’s confidence would be in doubt for the next match. I will bring in Shehi to pair Frank or Bonke, Ejike will retain his spot, Osimehn retain his spot, Moses Simon to the bench. Calvin Bassey might come in later. I will say a 3-5-2

    Okoye

    Awaziem Ekong Akpogunma

    Aina. Bassey

    Shehu/ Bonke/Frank

    Simon. Musa/Aribo
    Ejuke

    Osimehn

Aina and Bassey as wing backs cuz losing is not an option. We have to atleast come back with 1 point or else it will place us in a precarious position.
