Exclusive: 2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Sierra Leone May Shock Super Eagles If…–Tijani Warns

Former Nigerian winger, Tijani Babangida has warned that Sierra Leone may shock the Super Eagles if the issue of appointing a substantive coach for the team is not resolved.

Recall that after Augustine Eguavoen stepped down as the head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, days after the team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup holding in Qatar, the NFF is yet to announce a new coach for the team.

With the Super Eagles set to face Sierra Leone in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month at the Mashood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, the former Ajax winger in a chat with Completesports.com stated that the NFF must do the right thing by appointing a new coach.

He also warned the NFF and the Super Eagles never to underestimate Sierra Leone and to the team to the cleaners.

“It’s a big concern for us that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not announced a new coach for the Super Eagles,” the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist told Completesports.com.

“I am more worried because the team will be facing Sierra Leone in a matter of weeks and the NFF is yet to settle with a new coach. Except if they want Finidi George or Salisu Yusuf to handle the game.

“But I am afraid that Sierra Leone may shock Nigeria at the Moshhod Abiola Stadium if we fail to do the right thing. NFF must put things in proper shape so that the team can move ahead on the task at hand.”

  • The question is why Abiola Stadium?
Why not Port Harcourt or Uyo?

where we have passionate fans as number 12 in the stadium. Not fans that can’t give the necessary motivation and always ready to destroy things when players don’t play to the expectation.

    • @Godstate, It doesn’t matter where they take the next match to. FIFA has banned fans for our next match as a punishment. So whether they take it to Uyo, PH, Lagos or Kotangora, the match will be behind closed doors

There are tow factors if founded, Super Eagles would be beaten by Sierra leon; frist fact is understamting Sierra and playing like they have an upper hand than them(sierra) ; second fact; if SE can’t play with strong and combative defensive style, so I think if new coach looks after these tow factors SE will beat any team in Africa grand or tiny teams.
