Exclusive: 2023 U-20 WC: Flying Eagles Must Step Up Their Game Against Italy –Lawal

Former Super Eagles winger, Garba Lawal has told the Flying Eagles to step up the standard of their game if they are to beat Italy in the second group game of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Recall that Nigeria defeated Dominican Republic 2-1 on Sunday in their opening game while Italy edged Brazil 3-2 as well.

The Flying Eagles will clash with Italy on Wednesday, in a game that could determined which team qualify first in the group.

However, in a chat with Completesports.com,  Lawal advised the Flying Eagles to up their game and attack the Italians.

“I watched the Flying Eagles 2-1 win over Dominican Republic and I was unhappy that the team failed to score more than two goals.

“Yes, it’s the three points that matters but then the team must up the standard of their game if they are to beat Italy in their next game.”

  • You must be out of your mind mr.lawal. l hope you are not smoking weed or marijuana. This team that I saw out there will not even sniff the Italians not. They should be ready fora rude awakening. I can categorically tell you with confidence that Nigeria will be beaten by both Italy and Brazil by at least 6 goals to nothing. This is the end of the road for Nigeria…Nigeria don’t have a sound coach….

So for your mind you have made a comment???. You just spoke like an toddler .

  • @Emecco or whatever you call yourself. Cant you see with your 2 naked eyes that this team is struggling to score goals…They wobbled and fumbled just to qualify for the world cup. These players are full of running with no football IQ…Take it or leave it. Nigeria is going home. We will beaten by Brazil and Italy. Our coach doesn’t have the football acumen to be a coach…

What would you have said they has the match? Nawa o. There’s a lot of improvement in this team, compared to AFCON team. And they didn’t do too badly in the first match. Yes! Chances were lost, but it’s not enough to crucify them.

If they beat italy its a miracle. Then we can begun to support and have trust in their ability. To be candid personally I don’t see them doing anything apart from running up and down the players are as dull as the coach. Italy will allow them play aimlessly, while they will keep scoring

I’m honestly not sure why people are saying Italy will beat dis team without even kicking a ball, dats a defeatist mindset if u ask me. The football hadn’t been played abd fans have akready conceded defeat. I personally think we will win dis game. The boys showed massive improvement from AFCON and we all know how difficult it is to play in Africa. Though Italy ran out 3:0 up against brazil in dia 1st game but dat was cos brazil were incredibly bad and they tot by virtue of being brazil, italy would just bend over for dem but italy punched dem in d face quick. Italy’s strength lies in dia midfield so if the FE can cut off d midfield we will be home and dry. We only need a point to make it out of d group. If i were Bosso i would take Jimmyball’s suggestion on a different thread and choke the midfield, i will add another body plus the 3 dat are already there. I will play Daga-Nnadi-Eletu-Lawal as our midfield with d mindset of atleast two defensive midfielders staying back to cover the defense. We will control d midfield. Play Ibeju and Sunday upfront atleast for the 1st 60-70mins. Also we need to be disciplined and avoid commiting needless fouls, take our chances when they come and most importantly play for each other as a team and Italy will only escape with a point. Yeah i said it, the young azzuris will only escape with a point. We are faster, fitter, stronger, and as takented as they are, so what is all d fear for? Good luck FE, go there and show dem dat names don’t play football.

I meant 1st half of their 1st game against Brazil, which eventually ended 3:2 in favor of the Azzuris
