EXCLUSIVE: Amuneke May Replace Peseiro After AFCON 2023

EXCLUSIVE: Amuneke May Replace Peseiro After AFCON 2023

Emmanuel Amuneke is in line to replace Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles head coach, Completesports.com reports.

Peseiro has come under intense criticism following the Super Eagles disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The three-time African champions picked just two points from their opening two games against minnows Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Completesports.com learnt from a reliable source in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), that Peseiro will only keep his job if the Super Eagles win the title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

“The reason Peseiro is still keeping his job is because the NFF is cash strapped at the moment. The Federation is not happy with the performance of the Super Eagles under him,”said the source.

“He would lead the Super Eagles to the AFCON in January next year but the only way he can keep the job is by winning the title.

”Even if the Super Eagles make it to the semi-final or the final, he will still have to go.

“The general consensus among the NFF executive members is to appoint a local coach in the event Peseiro fail to meet the set target.

“The number one choice at the moment is Emmanuel Amuneke because of his antecedents with the Golden Eaglets and Tanzania national team.”

Peseiro was appointed Super Eagles head coach on May 15, 2022.

In 14 games under his tutelage, the Super Eagles have won six, drawn three and lost five.

Let GENERAL ROAR REPLACE PESERO then let AMUNIKE be his ASSISTANT so he can learn from one of the best… Then after AMUNIKE can take over

  • Emmanuel Amuneke, Michael Emenalo,John Utaka,Ndubuisi Egboband Vincent Enyeama will do the magic for Nigeria if Jose Pseiro leaves. We’ve tried Austin Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi,Sunday Oliseh ,Ike Shorunmu,Alloy Agu in the past. Let’s try new hands please.

  • Bestsport 10 months ago

Perfect decision! Amuneke time has come deservedly so! His team use to play like Barcelona because he was their former player too, he is technically capable and tactically sufficient enough! I’m rooting for him. If I was Nff president i will sack peseiro now instead of allowing him yo go and embarrass at the nations Cup campaign. Let Amuneke and his priority personally hand picked assistants go on that jamboree at the nations Cup instead of peseiro, because peseiro is quite Frankly a very useless tactician coach. Over to u NFF. BUT CAN THEY DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR ONCE? I THINK NOT.

  • They should sideline the current coach and employ Amunike as soon as possible.

  • Lordavid onyeka 10 months ago

What has amuneke done in the coaching world get us a grade b coach local coaches should prove themselves 1st

  • The combo of Emmanuel Amuneke, Manu Garba,Michael Emenalo, John Utaka , Ndubuisi Egbo and Vincent Enyeama is the best for the Super Eagles after the AFCON in Ivory Coast. Sunday Oliseh, Samson Siasia,Finidi George Daniel Amokachi,Austin Eguavoen,Alloy Agu and Ike Shorunmu have all been given the opportunity to showcase their technical expertise with the national team. Let’s try the others and see how it goes.

Why waiting after AFCON 2024? Put Manu Garba and Amunike and see the super eagles of your dream.

NFF should be serious for once

    If I may ask, please satisfy my curiousity;
what Amunike’s team played like Barcelona? And I am not talking about age group football, I mean senior sides!

Are we talking of his Juluis Berger’s side that nobody watched.
Or his failed stint in Egypt. Or his lucky qualification with Tanzania for the Afcon 2019 just because Lesotho and Cape Verde drew? An AFCON where he was devastatedly beaten.
Oh wasn’t he an assistant to Eguavoen in our last failed world cup qualifying bid?
Or am I missing something? Is there a different coach Emmanuel Amunike?

Do the NFF,nay most Nigerians understand that the Senior National team is a total different ball game from age grade football?!

Do they understand that this is a team supported by one of the most passionate fan base in the world and Carries a cross that goes beyond football?

Do they understand that the Super Eagles is one of our few prideful possessions as Nigerians, home and abroad?
3 times Afcon Champions, world cup appearances and legendary names that donned that jersey!
If the Nigerian FA can’t are lost on what the Super Eagles is all about, maybe, we could plead with our fellow African greats; Egypt, Cameroon , Ghana, Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal and Morocco to help us remind them what the Super Eagles represents.

This is the Super Eagles.. the Senior National team with big Egos being owed and all, not the Golden Eaglets.

With all due respect to Emmanuel Amunike, he should take a bye on this one.

What the hell is wrong with the NFF?
    AMUNIKE. Are you kidding me?!

  • I think the managerial efficiencies of NFF must change if not no coach will excel no matter how good.

  • Welcome development. Also, NFF must give him full support and pay him well.

He must also be allowed to select his players himself.

    God bless Nigeria.

    God bless Super Eagles

    God bless Football loving Nigerians

Me and my team can handle the super eagles. I ve 6 assistant working day and night in a all players on the field when dey are playing collecting data on their performances during games . From Napoli oshimen to Belgium brugge oyendikah to gent orban in Europa to Atlanta lookman even to Sadiq that came in 80mins to freburg atuolu that leading 4 0 to Leverkusen boni to paok in Greece to Leicester or a c milian
With a mixture of local legs in the defense.i have gotten a team with 5 4 1 formation to get out of the group stage of afcon 2023 and go on to win the quarter final with 4 4 2 to get into the semi and with 4 3 3 get into the final .and the final wil play itself.
All I need is $14000 then agreement wil be signed to get the world cup qualification .with $100000 or get rwanda coaching job

  • Amuneke what?
This must be the biggest joke ever!!

  • respect is reciprocal 10 months ago

Now Amunike will become Eagles coach because of his record with golden eaglet and Tanzania. Jesus . Nigeria is gone for life. The only criteria is being a coach of u17 and Tazania . Who has cursed this country ? Let Amunike handle home super eagles what we need is a superior technically sound coach .

  • Humm Sidon look mode activated, amunike how? Can’t we just get pitso for between 20k to 30k usd monthly? Plus why are they even wishing peseiro to fail in the first place?

  • chuks haifa 10 months ago

A very risky choice. I rate Amunike at almost the same level with Saintfield but better than Paseiro. But Pitso is the best anyday. Being a South African is risky.
Lets just pray to get the best coach.

A local coach would be a disaster!Tom Sainfiet who has been mentioned lately should be in pole position to succeed Peseiro should he leaves after the afcon.

  • Ayphillydegreat 10 months ago

So they will allow Peseiro to take the team to the AFCON after all? If he wins the tournament nkọ? you will keep him. Lmao! Anyway me I just want to see our tournament readiness with these team. I wish Peseiro and the SuperEagles all the best in Ivory Coast. A full two weeks camping may spark something but I will enjoy the tournament.

  • Edoman 10 months ago

Amunike will be good for Nigeria super eagle on the way going forward. The present coach is a dead end.

  • Lucky Ukhun 10 months ago

Here we go again! NFF better get this clear: No matter how good a coach Nigeria employs, he can never perform to his full capacity, as long as his wages are not being paid. No hungry man can give his best. As long as NFF is concerned, coaches and players should work and play for Nigeria for free, while they in the NFF feed fat on the coffers of the Federation. Bunch of heartless, shameless and greedy round pegs in square holes. Rubbish!

  • EMMANUEL AMUNEKE IS THE BEST FOR SUPER EAGLE FOR NOW

    HE IS A GOOD COACH

  • Amuneke is the perfect choice if we’re to look inwards.. he coached most of these boys at the U-17 level before they became stars today, talk of Osimhen and Chukwueze. He’s a disciplinarian that knows what he’s doing.

  • No to Amunike…..

  • Willie 10 months ago

Will NFF pay Amunike $60,000 a month? If only we can value our own. Gather 3 or 5 of our best coaches, pay them all with Peseiro salary and see the wonderful news that will be coming from the Super Eagles

  • NFf should appoint Sampson Siasia Instead of Amunike. Siasia,Finidi George and Vincent Enyeama can take Super eagles to the next level

  • Very poor record indeed. Even Amuneke with his Tanzania profile is very poor. Away joor!!!
