Exclusive: Dessers Deserves Another Chance In Eagles –Dosu

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph believes Super Eagles striker, Cyriel Dessers should be giving another opportunity to prove his worth in the senior national team.

Recall that Dessers made his debut for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw against Tunisia in an international friendly on 13 October 2020 under former boss, Gernot Rohr.

However, the Nigerian international has become an integral part of Feyenoord, scoring goals both in the Eredivisie and Europe.

He netted a brace to help them secure a 3-2 win over Marseille in Thursday’s Europa Conference League first leg semi final game.

Reacting to his impressive goal scoring performance, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist told Completesports.com that Dessers has shown that he deserves a chance in Eagles again.

“Although the Super Eagles have an array of strikers to count on, however, I still believe Dessers has done enough to be giving another chance in the team,” the former Atlanta gold medalist told Completesports.com.

“His performance with Feyenoord shows he has improved his level of football and goal scoring skills. I feel he should be giving a chance to prove his worth with the Super Eagles because we need our best players to prosecute the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.”

Has he been giving a chance before and he never used it? Inviting player and never tried them at least 45mins on the pitch is not the best

  • Kenny 2 years ago

Wrong statement. Desser should be invited to camp regularly and be used like we are using other players. Saying Desser should be given a chance is for players that are not mature for Super Eagles.

Nigeria is a great nation that have so many great things to be among the best in the world.

What is pulling Nigeria down as a country is our government. The government doesn’t abide by the rules of law.

We were enslaved by the Oyinbos and our government is also enslaving its people with modern slavery, “poverty”.

Hmmm. This leads to corruption. Our leaders are above the law while the middle class people are the victim of the government.

Nigeria is a country that has no value and respect for the lives of their citizens and their resources.

I don’t want to go deep too much today. However, If one of us here on CSN have committed what Amaju Pinnick, Diko and Sheyi have committed in the past and up to the present, am pretty sure that EFCC won’t hesitate to do their job but it is government officials and they are above the law and such a thing won’t happen.

If we do our findings so well, the government instructed the coaches not to included Dessers in the Super Eagles. No wonder that Amaju has traveled to begged Ighalo and we saw the result in the end.

Due to corruption and incompetency of Amaju, Oga Rohr and now Mr. Eguavoen, Nigeria doesn’t have a team yet but a depleted and disjointed team that has no value in African football presently.

More so, Amaju Pinnick definitely deserves to be in prison yard sooner or later with his colleagues.

The current NFF are paying Oga Rohr monthly without our consent while we having been calling the attentions of the NFF to Oga Rohr situation immediately after the world cup in Russia that Oga Rohr must be fired.

Oga Rohr was the only foriegn coach that served Nigeria for so long without winning a tea cup .

Nobody can tell me that Dessers doesn’t have the qualities it takes to bench Ighalo, Sodiq, Olayinka and Onuachu in the Super Eagles.

The two strikers we have currently are Osimhen and Dessers. Why did Oga Rohr and Mr. Eguavoen were so disrespectful in that regard to the extent that they intentionally omitted Dessers in their plans?

Upon doing a shabby job, NFF still paying the German tactician every month while Mr. Eguavoen also earning his monthly salary. What is Amaju still doing there and why the current NFF are so wasteful like this?

Even, when Dessers was at Genk with Onuachu, he was scoring goals whenever he was called upon but Onuachu was their main striker at Genk. This was the reason why Dessers was loaned to Feyenoord and he’s doing very well.

Dessers is more committed to play for Nigeria but hopefully, his dream will come true next month against Mexico and Ecuador.

I heard that coach Salisu Yusuf will be in charge of both games. It is a shame that Amaju brought our sports to this level.

We have Egbo, Amunike and Finidi George that well established in this game. This is a rare opportunity for them to prove to us against Mexico and Ecuador that they are more qualified to be in charge of the Super Eagles.

Lastly, we all have to support each other to make sure we put the right people in the system to run Nigeria for us.

If we don’t do that, Nigeria may not achieve its dreams. Can you imagine, Canada, a non-football nation will be in Qatar while Nigeria, a football nation won’t be in Qatar due corruption. It is a shame. Truth is bitter. Can’t wait to see Dessers on the Super Eagles. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Any sound coach suppose know say Dessers na dangerous striker silently on pitch. He can harm you at any moment

  • CS. This one is not news at all. Stop using every statement of these ex international as news and reports. You are lazy. Go to flying eagles camp and give us news. Go to eahlet camp. Get your contacts in Europe to give us news around these players.

Do we anyone to say dessers needs our apologies ane that he should be the first oerson to be invited. Another chance??? Has he been given any chnace at all. To rob insult upon injury eguavon said he has not seen him play before…what a talk from an ex international in our today’s world. Pinnick and others need to convince me they don’t have something against this patriotic player. We Re watching.

  • Dr. Drey 2 years ago

No sir. He is a foreign born…like his other foreign borns who are churning out jaw-dropping performances week in week out in Europe whom you and your colleagues what to shut out of the SE, he doesnt deserve a chance.

Your homebased players whom you want to market with SE invitations are more Nigerian that those born abroad.

I still need Eguavoen to come out and tell us once more that Dessers needs to be watched live in Rotterdam before he can get an invitation to the national….LMAOoooo

    Bunch of Xenophobic rogues.

    • benakay 2 years ago

Agree. They are foreign born players are the root cause of all Nigeria’s problems. True Nigerians in the NPFL are better – even though they play in a league that no Nigerian cares to watch because of the extremely poor quality of play, and have also played several times in WAFU and failed miserably.

The HB have just not been ‘discovered’ yet. Once they play for the Super Eagles (even though they do not deserve to be called), they can become FB by playing in Vietnam or some useless league in some remote place in the world, so long as their agents make money.

Also, it is the NFF fault for not ‘encouraging’ HB players and not making the NPFL clubs better, even though it is the job of the Sports Ministry to build stadiums and provide facilities for the NPFL to grow. The stupid sports minister, who has refused to do his job, is also opening mouth and blaming the NFF for his incompetence.

…it is very obvious that the abject stupidity of some Nigerians knows no bounds…

      • Dr. Drey 2 years ago

I vehemently disagree with you benkay.

The Nigerian league is of extremely high quality….our teams are always reaching at least semi finals of CAF club competitions before bowing out. Go to stadiums across the league every week and you will hardly find a place to stand. The was even a stampede the last time Shooting Stars player Rangers, while a portion of the Enyimba stadium collapsed due to overcrowding the last time Enyimba faced Kano Pillars in Aba.

Just recently representatives of Bayern Munich were in Jos to hold talks with plateau united to sign their playmaker Nenrot Nandank. Recall last season too when Sevilla FC enquired about Olakunle Adeleke from Abia Warriors. And how can we forget the top scorer of 2 seasons ago Edet Akpabio of Rivers United who is now leading the scorers chart in French league 1 after sealing a transfer to PSG.

Infact the league today is 10 times better than it was in the late 80s and early 90s. As numerously indicated by some folks in this forum, it has been grave injustice to have not been giving these home-based guys from national team call ups ahead of those playing at the highest levels in Europe. Even the Nigerian second division is far better than Saudi and Egyptian league according to “the star” of them all

Having said all of the above, it is not the job of the NFF, NPFL or Sports Ministry to develop the league…..it is the job of the Super Eagles coach. All the national team coaches we have been having since 1945 when the NFF was set up have been the ones developing our league until 2016 when the mechanic called Rohr was employed.

Rohr did not develop our league. He spent 6 years destroying our league. Our league was high up there rubbing shoulders with the best leagues on the continent until Rohr came and destroyed it. A league that was generating $3bn in just TV revenue, a league where teams from Europe come in droves to sign players straight into their first teams, a league that has consistently produced CAF awards nominees year in year out. I dare to say most of our HB players will definitely bench these ajebota foreign borns in their clubs without even breaking a sweat.

        Only If wishes were horses…!

      • This is a very different Dr.Drey. The one I know can never say it is the job of Super Eagles Coach to develop the league. Like where does that even make sense. Is development only about exporting local players to Europe???
What happens to the local referrees, who is to develop them, is that Super Eagles coach work too???
What about the finances of each of the club’s, is that his work too.

Then we talk about the stadia which they players play on, na Super Eagles coach work be that one too???

When you can’t reason in a logical manner, all form of gibberish comes out of your mouth.

So league development is only about exporting local players.

        Qwantinue. Nigeria we hail thee!

    • Chinenye 2 years ago

Your good for nothing Rohr ignored him and opted for retired Ighalo during his best form of the season

  • When did he get a chance, oh im sorry you mean that 10-15 mins he was given during that friendly match. Lol, please be serious. If that qualifies as a chance then what will you call the opportunities given to other players who were given quality game time to prove themselves?

  • JULIET 2 years ago

I DON’T KNOW WHY NIGERIA ARE SNUBBING DESSERS FOR SUPER EAGLE INVITATION. IT IS ONLY OSIMHEN THAT IS RELIABLE INFRONT OF GOAL FOR SUPER EAGLE. EVERY OTHER STRIKERS ARE MANAGEABLE.
    ### THEY SHOULD GIVE A CHANCE AGAIN ###

  • Edoman 2 years ago

Dessers was overlooked because of Omo9ja who was promoting him at a time Dessers was not even ripe enough. He is coming of age now, in my opinion.

    • Chinenye 2 years ago

It takes more than a 4 year course in the university studying to find sense in what you just typed. Your heavy duty brother was invited instead of him by Rohr and as if that wasn’t enough, your clueless brother Eguavon sidelined him even further. Thanks goodness they’re all gone

When was Desser given a chance ?… really when ?..shame on all you idiots managing our football , especially that headless and nothingness fool called Equavoen!!..that carpenter coach said that he has not watched Desser play in order to assess him , what a stupid statement coming from a useless man !!..I hope he is watching him now ?..Now that his useless choices have sent him to retirement (cos is only a worthless club that will pick Equavoen for anything), I hope he is now happy that Nigeria did not win the Afcon as well as not qualifying for the world cup .God bless Desser for believing in his country Nigeria , may he shine to shame the evil ones like Equavoen and his useless cousin Pinik!!

Cyriel Dessers will never accept another invitation to the Nigerian XI. He would be a fool to join a decaying and tattered Super Eagles of a very corrupt country

  • Papafem 2 years ago

Eguaveon left Dessers out of the squad for personal reasons. He’s got no justification for keeping him out in those matches against Ghana. If Musa and Ighalo made that team, then Dessers should have made it as well. But Mr know all told us he had to go to Holland, watch this guy play, and have a perdonal discussion with him before inviting him. I found that excuse so so dump and disgusting. Did you need all that to invite a player who is already in the team, and has not said he’s not going to play for the team again? Why do you need go watch him live before inviting him yo the national team? You can see whatever you need to see of him on dstv, both in the Eredivisie and UECL. Nigerian coaches can be very insincere and dramatic.

    • Dr. Drey 2 years ago

The plan to ostracize foreign borns from the SE was long hatched before the WC ouster. Reason for the inexplicable omission of the likes of Dessers, Akpoguma and Bassey from the 28 man AFCON squad despite being in the 40 man provisional sqaud for players who were not even listed in the provisional squad.

Eguavoen had the chance to replace 2 CFs, he still omitted Cyriel for a 1 goal 1 assist all season in greek league winger when the team was already saturated with wingers.

He had the chance to replace Jamilu Collins with Bassey, but would rather wait for Jamilu to report to camp injured, almost 10 days (if not more) late with no explanations and a further few days to “recover from a phantom illness”

He had the chance to replace Awaziem, who also reported to camp with an Injury, with Akpoguma but would rather help him hide the injury till we crashed out….not forgetting that an injured Ndah made a final 28 man squad INJURED.

They must sell their homebased/homegorwn players by force. Foreign born Nigerians are less Nigerian than their home grown boys. Its a sin nowadays to travel abroad and give birth to kids abroad……according to Odegbami, Paul Bassey, Amokachi and the rest of the racist and xenophobic bunch.

It would have even been a different ball game if their homegrown players are playing at the level or better than the level these foreign borns are playing.

      • footballfanatic 2 years ago

Some of this football administrators are so local and outdated in their thinking. I am very hurt about this Dessers issue and as much as I won’t him to play for us, I also want him to turn us down and play for Belgium just cause we deserve such treatment. With village people like these fools running our football I don’t believe anything will change drastically.

  • footballfanatic 2 years ago

I wonder why these players were not called up for the Wc qualifier against Ghana

    1. Dessers

    2. Awoniyi

    3. Awaziem (He had returned from injury and played 3 matches for his club)

    4. Ejuke

And why he didn’t bring in Amoo in the second half still boggles my mind…..

It took a player to tell them that Ghana had switched to a 5 man defence…..How the fool who is a technical director didn’t read the game to see that Odoi had switched to left wing back from right full back and the introduction of Yiadom to right full back is still mystery….Dude probably didn’t study the Ghanian squad and the delay in releasing their squad helped them. When Ghana introduced an attacking midfielder, a right full back, and another central defender our own Guardiola waited 80 something minutes to bring in 2 old players when he had fresh younger legs..I rest my case I’m just fed. It’ll come to a time where I’ll just check scores for Nigerian matches till this current football administration is kicked out..

  • Thank God all the players they wanted were invited for Nations cup and WCQ against Ghana. They said Oshimen and Dennis would have made a difference in Nations cup but alas they were their against Ghana and Dennis was even the worst player in that match in Abuja. To think that because of same Dennis they called that poor coach unprinted names hummmm #karma is truly a bitch. They are not crying for Dennis again but Dresser naija people…

    • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

You must be new on this forum or blind not have seen that people had been clamoring for Dessers since after his debut against Tunisia. Even Rohr messed up with this one by ignoring this guy and inviting Onuachu, Ighalo and other non-deserving players…. Also, the problem wasn’t the players invited but a very inept and clueless fool who was easy to read and very predictable and now that everything has failed what is wrong in inviting one of the best performing Nigerian striker at the moment? Awoniyi got his chance, Sadiq got his, Onuachu several times, Olayinka…. So what is wrong with Dessers getting at least 45 mins if the above mentioned players got way more chances? Guy dey use your brain before u open mouth.
