Exclusive: FIFA U-20 WC: Brazil, Italy Are Flying Eagles Biggest Obstacles –Shorunmu

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu believes the Flying Eagles biggest obstacles in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be Brazil and Italy.

Nigeria have been drawn against five time champions Brazil, Italy and Dominican Republic in Group D of the tournament.

The Flying Eagles must dig their feet in order to scale through the group phase must dig their feet in this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup competition.

Shorunmu, who is optimistic of the Nigeria’s chances in the group, however, told Completesports.com in an interview that the duo of Brazil and Italy will be the team’s biggest obstacles.

“I have so much confidence that the Flying Eagles will qualify from a group that looks so difficult. However, my biggest worry is Brazil and Italy because they will definitely be Nigeria’s biggest obstacles in the Group.

“I am not underestimating the Dominican Republic because if they are not good enough, they won’t be at this tournament. So, Nigeria must be wary of them as well.”

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have finished as runners-up on two occasions, in Saudi Arabia in 1989 and in The Netherlands in 2005. They were bronze medallists in the USSR in 1985.

  • CSN and all these fluff and filler headlines and stories. So, Shorunmu saying “Brazil, Italy Are Flying Eagles Biggest Obstacles” or Dosu quipping “Underrate Dominican Republic At Your Peril” is supposedly news?

Oh, wow!!?? Really!!!??? Silly me, I didn’t even know until they said it. What ‘wise, exclusive’ points! All the while, I was thinking the Dominican Republic were the Flying Eagles’ biggest obstacle o.

    Common, guys! Stop it already!

What’s intriguing, shocking, or eyebrow-raising about these common-sense views??? Worse, you’ll ridiculously attach the click bait “Exclusive” to it. Are you people redefining the terms, ‘news’ and ‘exclusive’?

Why not give a scoop about the opponents, their preparations, and potentials vis-a-vis the Flying Eagles, Go to their country FA websites or dedicated team websites and follow up on their preparation. Who are the coaches? What’s their tactical philosophy and what are their records? How did the Dominican Republic get to this stage against current footballing logic? And which unknown team has pulled a shock on the world stage previously?

You know, stuff like that, then attach your favourite misused and overused word, ‘Exclusive’ to it, maybe it’ll carry some weight. Not Shorunmu, Disu, Lawal, and Akpoborie saying fillers, fluff, and sweet nothings every time and you tag it as ‘news.’
