Former Nigerian winger, Tijani Babangida has revealed that the Mexico and Ecuador friendly game will serve as a dress rehearsal for the Super Eagles ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
Recall that the team lost 2-1 to Mexico on Sunday before losing 1-0 to Ecuador on Friday morning under new coach, Jose Peseiro.
The three-time AFCON champions are expected to kick-start their campaign against Sierra Leone on June 9 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja.
Already, newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro is already under pressure to hit the ground running and convince Nigerian football fans of his abilities.
However, Tijani in a chat with Completesports.com stated that despite losing to Mexico and Ecuador, the Super Eagles are still favourite to overcome Sierra Leone.
“Losing to Mexico and Ecuador in an international friendly doesn’t really mean that it will be the same thing against Sierra Leone when the 2023 AFCON campaign kicksoff.
” I am sure the coach, Jose Peseiro would have seen some of the lapses in the team and will want to make amend.
“So the two international friendly games will only serve as a dress-rehearsal for the game against the Leone stars.”
