EXCLUSIVE: NFF Technical Committee To Scrutinise Peseiro’s AFCON 2023 List

The technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will vet Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro’s list for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Peseiro is expected to submit a 55-man provisional list to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of the 2023 AFCON finals latest December 14.

The technical committee has made it mandatory for the Portuguese to submit his list for proper scrutiny following the Super Eagles insipid display in recent outings.

“Peseiro must submit his provisional list for the AFCON to the technical committee for proper vetting before it is forwarded to CAF,” a reliable source close to the technical committee told Completesports.com.

“Peseiro has kept on inviting some players who are not playing regularly for their clubs and they are not contributing anything to the team.

“This time around, he must present his list before the committee and defend it as it was the practice in the past.

“They have also told him to look in the direction of some players who are doing well at their respective clubs, especially midfielders, who can add value to the team.”

Peseiro is expected to name a final 27-man squad for the competition from the provisional list.

The final roster is expected to be submitted to CAF by January 3, 2024.

The Super Eagles are drawn in Group A with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.

The 2023 AFCON finals will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

  • The best news today. Why will there be a “cult” in eagles because the coach prefers some players to giving joy to a nation? I even prefer that players who have been to at least 3 afcons should get out of the squad. That I don’t care attitude will happen in that case.

Wait. As if I expect the coach and his team to play knock out football in February. I beg, eagles should gettat

I think NFF technical committee must compel Peseiro to play with formation 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 not 4-4-2 which Super Eagles are not habituating it until now, SE habituate on total football, that means all players attack when they are in attacking position or all of them defend when they loose the ball, also they play with short passes not playing with long vertical passes; also NFF technical committee must compel him to summon an old SE guards just like Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo, Ogeny Onazi; adding to them Alhassan Yousuf, Anderson Esiti, creative attacking midfielder Fasiyo Dele Bashiru , so he must summon more than six midfielders so he must summon Wilfred Ndidi, Anderson Esiti,Alhassan Yousuf, Fasiyo Dele Bashiru, Alex Iwobi,Raphael Onyedika, Frank Oneyka; in defence he must summon Ola Aina,Tyronne Ebuehi, Kenneth Omeuro, Semi Ajayi, Jordan Torunariagh, Zaidu Sanusi,Bruno Onyemaechi; in attack he must summon Ahmed Musa , Victor Moses, Simon Moses, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo, Victor Boniface, Gift Orban, Sadiq Umar; in goalkeeping he must summon Arthur Okonkwo, Noah Otubolu, Olunreke Ojo.
