Exclusive: NFF To Ratify Rohr Sacking Next Week, Rules Out Nigerian Coach As Replacement

Nigeria Football Federation led by its President Amaju Pinnick Thursday briefed the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare on the situation regarding sacking of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr and hiring of his replacement, Completesports.com reports.

Informed sources close to the ministry revealed that the NFF briefed the minister of sports on how Rohr will be paid off and progress made to hire a new coach even as they (NFF) promised to return next week to brief the minister further on the new coach to be hired.

Completesports.com scooped that an undisclosed Belgian coach is atop the list of coaches the NFF are considering to replace Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles coach. And the federation seems to have ruled out the hiring of an Nigerian coach to replace Rohr.

“I can confidently tell you that Gernot Rohr’s reign as Super Eagles coach is over and we are on course to hiring a new coach, but that will be after we have tidied the documents on both disengaging the old and engaging the new coach. We will return next week to finally inform the Minister of the progress,” an impeccable source who pleaded anonymity told Completesports.com.

Although Pinnick told the media that no decision has been taken on Rohr and a new coach, our source however divulged that the NFF boss ruled out the chances of indigenous coaches taking charge of the senior national team now.

According to our source, the only way the NFF will engage a Nigerian coach is if the government agree to pay the salary and other financial benefits of the coach, since the contract the Federation has with their sponsor is to fund the hiring of a foreign coaches and not local coaches.

It was further revealed that one of NFF sponsors has agreed to offset the paying off of Gernot Rohr and the Federation wants the payment format concretized before they announce the sacking of the German and probably the new coach.

These coded sponsors always tend to be the BIG INFLUENCE ON PLAYERS INVITATION, just like, he who pays the Piper dictate the tunes.

FOREVER it seems we go in circles. Everything always shrouded in darkness. Better to now maintain only a faint interest in this thing called football. Completely taken over by greed, selfishness n deceit. Anything motivated by money loses its passion.

  • Let’s hope this is true. Because right now, Pinnick is speaking from both sides of his mouth. Rohr would not change the team structure and that means more heartaches for Nigerians, if he takes us to AFCON. All his desperate moves to name 40-players in his provisional team is a lie. He will narrow down to his nostalgic and uninspiring 24 loyal comrades. I believe Ihenacho should be dropped for AFCON. He has done nothing to deserve a place in the squad. Also, no need to have Ighalo in the team. Let us build a new team around players who are playing consistently in Europe. The new coach should focus on the areas of concern for the team – The midfield and defence are the most problematic areas. We need to try any of Ovie Ejiara, Alhassan Yussuf, Innocent Bone and Akinkunmi Amoo to combine with Nididi in the midfield. We need to work on our set pieces, recall Victor Moses and break the Oyinbo Wall – It’s not working. We also need to try Clavin Bassey as left full back. In attack, lets play friendly matches and try out Dennis/Sodiq Umar, Dennis/Awoniyi or Dennis/Okereke. Nigeria is too blessed to be at the mercy of mediocre players. Ejuke should always start ahead of Iwobi and Nigeria should revert back to 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 formation.

You have spoken my mind. You are too much a football analyst and I hope the technical Dept of the nff is taking notes.

    • Richard 2 years ago

Pls that bonke should be left out, there are home based players that are much better than him.

    • onwajunior 2 years ago

I don’t think Iheanacho would be left out of 2 Afcon tournaments, at least not when we can have 28 players. In my opinion, Rohr would select the best players out of his 40-man list. Remember what he did the last time when Iheanacho was all but guaranteed a spot. Rohr left him out because he wasn’t serious. Any unserious player would be left out, well, that is if NFF don’t interfere with players selection.

Depending on what success means to us among Afcon, World Cup ticket and attractive football, there are different considerations and risks. Afcon only – Rohr (low risk), WC only – Rohr (very low risk) or new coach hired now (medium risk), attractive football – new coach (very low risk), Afcon & WC – Rohr (low risk), Afcon & Attractive football – I don’t know maybe Rohr (in fact anything that has to do with winning Afcon is Rohr), WC & Attractive football – new coach hired now (high risk), Afcon & WC & attractive football – Rohr (high risk). We can either be effective or expressive. If we want effective then leave Rohr and give him the support he deserves, but if we want to be expressive then fine go with a new coach. My submission is to fire Rohr after the WC (I’m so overconfident that he’ll qualify us for WC), then hire a new coach who would stay long enough the way Rohr stayed.

  • It is what it is, as long as we Nigerians are not truthful and patient with ourselves to learn where we need to learn especially our so called ex – internationals and people who have no business taking with sports taking position in NFF or the Sports Ministry. We shall continue to be shrouded by sentiments in selecting ex – internationals as coaches and continue to play to the tune of sponsors that pay for the fees of foreign coaches. It is a value chain of corruption, not hiring or placing the best fit for a position at NFF or the Ministry plus greed. The buck doesn’t stop at anyone’s table on these matters.

Hahahaha……from Krankjick to Bonfrere Joke, now to “….an undisclosed Belgian coach…”……LMAOooo. I’m just thinking of which Belgian coach is currently on top of his game now and cant recall any…..LMAOOooo….Abi na Tom Saintfiet dem wan go bring…? or Maurice Cooreman…..LMAOOooo….!

And there goes any faint hope of achieving anything tangible in Cameroon.

Next week will be less than 30 days to AFCON……LMAOooo

Someone should pls wake us up when NFF has found paper and ink to type Rohr’s sack letter.

Whoever thought this NFF would replace Rohr with a “better” coach has been living in fools paradise……LMAOOooo.

We definitely wouldn’t tolerate any lame and senseless excuses…..We MUST WIN 2021 AFCON and play in the R16 in Qatar. Finis and Klaar.

Afterall, with the “caliber” of players we have, the best players in Africa, players who have won more than 70% of their competitive matches with just ONLY their sheer “Individual Brilliance”……..anybody else but Rohr can stroll to the podium in Cameroon…..LMAOooooo.

    I still dey road.

Sunday Dare, the Minister of Sports, was in charge of our preparations for the Olympics in Japan. We won ONE silver medal. He should have been sacked for non performance. If they chuck Rohr out, what will be the targets given to the new coach? Also, what will be the philosophy? Win matches or play attractive football even if you lose?

    • pascal 2 years ago

Sacked for what, other countries that came to participate came there to fold there hands because they want Nigeria to win.

  • Sammy 2 years ago

Those who fail to learn from history are bound to repeat it.

Every sane country is moving forward; Nigeria is repeating old mistakes…

    1997, 2002, 2010 and now 2021…unbelievable.

What expectations – pray tell, can one have of a coach hired 30 days to the start of the only competition the Eagles can realistically win? What realistic targets can you set for such a person? What expectations can he have of himself?

    • Iksproject 2 years ago

Lol win nations cup with Rohr? Rohr that will even tell you that there are stronger teams in continent that’s better than his eagles. He will demoralised the players before tournament. I rather a new coach take us to nations cup than clueless Rohr cos with Rohr you can never win anything.

  • I Hope those meetings where used to knock some sense into Pinnick and Rohr’s head. Becasue the last international break and the whole Odion Saga was a shambles. Really!! very amateurish to say the least and quite embarrassing from footballing Fraternity perspective Coaches world wide would have been looking Rohr like this man has no clue what he has at his disposal. Quite a shame they went that route, I hope they have learnt thier lesson not to disregard Nigeria Public and think 1 man(Pinnick) who is not the coach voted by the Nigerian public can come and make a self gratifying decision like that 1 month before crucial game. what a shamble that was. Really!!.

They were warned but their arrogance beclouded their reasoning. There’s a little book that provides some insight: SEEING WHAT OTHERS DON’T by Gary Klein.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

But I thought y’all wanted the man to be sacked. So, why the Lamentation chapter piknic vs Rohr all of sudden??? SMH… Nigeria always taking two step forward and then later Five step backwards!

    • You are very stupid if sacking him 30 days to Afcon seems logical to you. Even if people want him fired do you think such comes with lacking logical reasoning? Your posts here are becoming stupid, ignorant, and imbecilic can you just shut up if you have nothing reasonable to say.

  • Omo9ja 2 years ago

I said it few hours ago and I have to repeat myself again. Don’t break it if you can not fix it NFF.

It is high time our ex players step up and take over from the NFF.

Amaju and co know nothing on how to build a football culture in Nigeria.

Is it now Amaju and his crew know that they have to let go of Oga Rohr?

Why now if I am ask? They were sleeping after the last world cup in Russia?

NFF were not around after the Afcon in Egypt?

Why now they have to do this? How many days to Afcon now?

To make this worst, NFF are going for a foreign coach that knows nothing about African football.

At this point, going by what we witnessed
against CAR, Cape Verde and Liberia, Oga Rohr can not win a match in Cameroon. So, the only option is to ask him to step aside.

Now that we don’t have much time to waste before Afcon, here is why Pinnick and his company should be fired too.

They are wasting time because they don’t know what they are doing.

A foreign coach can not do anything. No1, the environment will be new to the gaffer.

No2, African football is different to European football.

No2, how quickly the gaffer can fix the problem of the Super Eagles.

Are you all agree with me that NFF are nothing but jokers.

The only way out is ex players and local coach because they are bn following Eagles since Oga Rohr started his journey with Super Eagles and they know exactly what to do between now and January.

That is to say, Amunike, Egbo, Marnu Gerba are the best options for the job.

They know what to do and they can quickly fix the problem and do wonders in Cameroon.

If NFF failed to do this, hopefully Super Eagles won’t be disgraced in Cameroon.

I have warned you NFF again and again. Make the move. If you NFF do not announce the new coach next week then no hope and the coaches have to be our own.

I can guide you through NFF.

    Amunike head coach
    Egbo first assistant coach
    Marnu Gerba second assistant coach

    Peter Rufai
    Enyeama
    Ikeme
    Goalkeeper trainers.

Let’s give these coaches a chance and see what will happen in Cameroon.

This is not complex for you to do NFF. Do something before something do you. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Una never start to dey regret. I bin dey tell una for so long up in this forum say it will be very expensive in all ramifications to sack Rohr than to retain him. Now the new coach that is coming in will see desperation in the eyes of the NFF and so he would want the NFF to work according to his terms and conditions and not the other way round. LMAO!!!!

    • Gernot Rohr and Ighalo and Picnic are clueless.
Pls get us indigenous coaches ASAP.

  • Larry 2 years ago

It seems to me that this sack thing is a scam being perpetrated by Roar & decision makers at nff.
The unholy meeting between Roar & Picnic

Picnic: Hey Roar, see the odd is stacked against you winning the AFCON and should this happen, we will have to sack you..

Roar; hmm, but we already have some agreements with some players about AFCON.

Picnic : see, that’s not the point. My point is if we sack you, considering your unimpressive records in the past 2 years, yits unlikely that you get hired by an ambitious team.

Roar: you are right. What can we do about this. Perhaps, you are still owing me.

Picnic: my man,, stop this salary thing. I’m a real waffi boy, I know a lot about your inner business dealings (call Ighalo and co) and get your lastr business it will be reason for this meeting is about the se It’s The next qualifier (Liberia & CV).

Roar: okay, I need you to make Ighalo’s return public, then I can invite him.

Picnic: here is the plan, I will ask you to resign. You will insist on continuing or get the $2M. We’ll drag this for a while and make it look like you love Nigeria more than the money. But do not forget our (the cabal) share of this severance pay (50/50).

Roar: Let me do my usual thing with my critics. I’ll release a 40 man lists to include the deserving players that could have made it impossible to invite my dealers..Dennis, Moses, Awoniyi, Dessers, Lookman, Okereke, Ejaria, Amoo, Adeleye, AL hassan, Sadiq, Ebuehi, Nwobodo..

Picnic: well, it’s called damage control. I will take care of my own side by trying to employ an affordable good foreign coach because all eyes are on me. I need Nigerians support a lot more because of my future Plans.

  • Guys it seems complete sport has resulted to deleating my comments all becUse I figured our NFF and Rohrs plan. They have included deserving players to fool us only for Rohr to prune it down to his usuals come AfCon time the ones whom I hate to say he may have some dealings with. If this is the case we have to bring it to light. A disaster will be to see the likes of Moses Simon, Ahmed Musa, Samuel Kalu, Paul Onuachu Abdullahi Shehu. Making the team ahead of our premier league stars and European stars. Emma Dennis, Ademola lookman, Victor Moses, Taiwo Awoniyi, Chidera Ejuke Dessers and co. We can’t allow that it would spell disaster and early exit from Action more so with the injury to our Stars Victor Osimhen and Peter Etebo. We can not allow this.

    • Early exit from AFCON..I forgot to add Calvin Bassey there he needs to be there ahead of Abdullahi Shehu if Nigeria wants to do well in A continental show piece then Quota system needs to be done a way with. What is the big deal anyway Zaidu Sanusi is one of the best wing backs we have in Nigeria and his place is overly merited and he is in my books a 1st 11 player no matter what anyone says. But for me only the best biko nu. Musa and Shehu must step aside before Afcon if Nigeria is really serious about having a successful tournament each position should be a constant competition between players that occupy them

  • Hmmm….Its a pity.
Rohr can be good, if he wants to. There were matches to prove that..e.g
    *Nigeria Vs Argentina
    * Nigeria Vs Cameroon 4-1,3-2
    * Nigeria Vs Ukraine… First half
    * Nigeria Vs Brazil…etc
But Rohr’s Problem is, he choose to be over careful nowadays. Even against minor teams.
Imagine Rohr using just 3 100% attacking players per match.
    Proof:
Out of 20 outfield players from 23 list, we always call on 9 defenders.
Ekong, Balogun, Awaziem, Omeruo, Akpoguma,Aina, Sanusi, Collins and Shehu. From the Midfield, Ndidi is a defensive midfielder same with Onyeka.
And Aribo in Naija colors plays Deep and not always offensive like when on club duties..that’s why he’s been silence mostly in Naija color. That’s 3 plus 9 making 12 defenders out of 20.
Then one of the remaining 8 attackers has been forced to be playing 70% defending, 30% attacking in person of Moses Simon in total, we have 13 defenders , 7 attackers from 23 players call up for any match.
Out of 7 ..mostly 3 or sometimes 4 start our Matches.
Iwobi,Osimhen and Iheanacho or Ighalo, Osimhen and Iwobi. In these case, its either we settle for draws or win by 1 goal or highest 2 goal margin. In a situation where our opponent score first with our present state, that’s the end. Tell Rohr to get back to his old self.

  • Ralph 2 years ago

No disrespect to anybody here guys, but I’ve read some comment here about High Risk, Low Risk and Very Low Risk of hiring or sacking the coach or stuffs life that, its not really my liking for sacking a coach and every coach need time to show their worth, but if a coach has been on seat for over 4 years, please what time are you asking for again ? The truth is as things stand today, DR CONGO is the only team we can get in the playoff that we will perhaps think of having a 50-50 chance, any team other than that ? forget it. The best we can get with a team like MALI is a draw or slim win at home and lose away, the other teams? GHANA, CAMEROUN, SENEGAL, ALGERIA,EGYPT, MOROCCO? Common guys, we are all patriotic but lets be realistic here. The only hope and option we have is bringing in a new man and hope he can bring in something different than this rubbish we have now, we have way too good and talented players to be in this mess, the current coaching team have nothing to offer this team and glaring, you keep them in office then forget the WC.

    • onwajunior 2 years ago

Lol…@Ralph don’t mind my comment about risks. But honestly if we want to qualify for WC with a new coach then Afcon wld be the only real opportunity the new coach would have to assess the players, unless we go for a local coach. I’m not in support of a local coach for obvious reasons.

  • If nigeria sack Rohr the are going for a diaster in the african cup this isn’t the time to sack a coach

  • Field Marshall. General. Sir Johnbob 2 years ago

    Forget that,
Dennis has to come in now, he has developed into a fearsome predator and very dynamic and charismatic in an old school way, the thing about the talent available is that it really is mind boggling, if another country like Germany or England or even ordinary Ghana down there(lol) have access to that level of talent, I can assure you they will see what it is they actually have very quickly which is (if done right) not only a very realistic chance to be the only and first Africans to achieve footballing world dominance by right but also a literal “licence to go and print money” Legally and legitimately and open up the Nigerian economy in a big way, which is what generations upon generations of the poor masses have always prayed for and are still praying for today…
Anyway, I digress, my main point was about all this sack Rohr business, I am neither for nor against and my reasons will probably take too long to explain as I will have to give context, If pushed otherwise to take a stance then I abstain, simply because I am not cattle or sheep, I only always see the bigger picture, and from my view point this question is academic and does not deserve a response from myself, Yes, Rohr could have/can do massively better and he has it there in him somewhere and yet Yes another manager could come in and do what Nigerians are calling for and pick our best talent and we have the best in the world, we need a manager who will select the best, bring it together and blend it as a group, provide high stability and fidelity to that group aided of course by whoever needs/has to and let it flourish and grow and within no time it will not only be paying for itself but creating massive streams of finance – its not rocket science yet here we are finding ourselves still talking about these things even after all these years. The problem however is that it does not matter! NONE of all that matters!! So long as the system remains the same (I know, its a sickly cliche” but unfortunately true, You could go right now and get Thomas Tuchel from Chelski and it would be doomed to failure in the system that exists in the country, I feel like I should be in Church….Feel like a Preacher. Chikenna!
