Exclusive: Super Eagles Will Conquer Africa If Rohr Selects Players Based On Merit – Aikhoumogbe

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe has appealed to the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to select players that will represent Nigeria at the fast approaching 2021 Africa Cup of Nations based on merit if the team must win the trophy.

In an interview with Completesports.com from his Cairo base in Egypt, Aikhoumogbe stated that he’s not concerned with the move by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to sack the German tactician but more worried on the preparedness of the team for the tournament.

With the Nations Cup commencing on January 9, 2022, Aikhoumogbe urged the NFF to focus more on the team success and how Rohr can really get the best from the players in Cameroon.

“This is not the time the Nigeria Football Federation should be talking about sacking Rohr with the Africa Cup of Nations set to commence January 9. Barely few weeks to go and we don’t really have any concrete plan for the Super Eagles.

“At this stage, we should be talking about how Rohr can select the right players based on merit if the team must succeed in Cameroon. We have many Super Eagles players painting Europe with goals and others helping their respective clubs succeed in Europe. No doubt, if Rohr selects the right players, Nigeria will conquer Africa.”

    True talk

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Yes o and one of the merit must be based on players experience

  • @MONKEY POST you are never tired to talk rubbish, Here is 1 Ex Footballer talking sense and you are talking rubbish. Experience comes with form Expeirence is no good if you are not in Form are you serious!!!. MONKEY POST LEARN TO LISTEN AND STOP TALKING> Moses experience is X10 of what Musa can ever bring because Victor Moses has always been the main man Musa was at best a super Sub. so Buhari can affect your brain and thinking like this guy you are not serious!! really!!

Again MVictor Moses, Ndidi, Iwobi, Ekong, Balogun have enough experience the rest can be young Guns Musa is no ahead of any of what we have now. Vic Moses, emma Dennis, Samuel Chukwueze, Chidera Ejuke, Ademola Lookan, even Moses Simon. there are many players ahead of your Musa for gods sake. He will not make it to Afcon e go choke you and Aphiliythegreat

    • I tire for the guy, since he join this forum few weeks ago, all his comment are always off point.

  • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

Will he ever be honest? If yes can we try out a fresh back 4 from the list of 28 Afcon sheet in a friendly and see what they can do?… Ola aina, Anthony Izuchukwu, Bassey and Zaidu? These are pure ballers who knows what to do with the ball, and can curtail pressure due to their imposing technique with quality composition, pressing passing game to support the midfield and attack. This is how to go when preparing for a tournament and also giving room for gatecrash.

    I’m writing this after watching how far these Arab countries are using the Arab Cup to prepare for upcoming tournaments, whilst we continue dragging our foot about Who leads the team to Cameroon. I would love to see this line up in a Friendly when Camp resumes… Adeleye/Uzoho;
Ola Aina, Anthony, Bassey, Zaidu; Ndidi:Iwobi,Aribo; V.Moses, Osihmen,Dennis. Subs Okoye, Akpoguma, Awaziem, Balogun,Collins; Ejaria, Onyeka, Ejuke, Chukwueze,Kalu; Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Dessers…. The other 3 slots to make up 28 can be given to the political commandos Shehu, Musa and Akpeyi as usual…. Ekong has lost form he doesn’t have a business in any serious team…. Also sounding warning to my beloved Kelechi Iheanacho to sit up or miss out to Multi positional players like Amoo and Lookman waiting in the wings for any chance to pounce. Nigeria has the Talent what we indeed need is Honesty with these loads of option scattered abroad!

    • Iksproject 2 years ago

From your line up no differences between u and Rohr..what has iwobi done to be on the starting lineup.

    • Akanlo Ede 2 years ago

When you criticize Iwobi make sure you also mention what he can do to get better just like a counselor. Lolzzzz
As if Iwobi has to wait for your advice before knowing he is a poor player. Lolzzzz. Player wey good, good. Player wey dey play Kerewa Kerewa football na original akamu. Lolzzzz. Bless all deserving Super Eagles player. Lolzzzz

  • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

On a serious note the other three slots should have gone to Lookman, Amoo and the inconsistent Ekong or Moffi but we are affiliated to a country where we have slots for some corrupt entities all in the name of Zonal slot!!!

    • Akanlo Ede 2 years ago

@Chima, I have to agree with your list. You are the most intelligent person in this forum. No one comes close to your superior football knowledge.

    • It is very sad bro and, should be eradicated for the benefit of our ball and development, if Musa and Shehu were playing as well as Zaidu Then okay I will support them, I am no Tribal biggot but for the sake of SE only the best, e don do with this Quota system biko nu

Weldone ex footballer @ugo Iwunze but I never mentioned any name. Why is your conscience and mind that is so full of hate for musa always pricking you..now prior to the Russia world 2018 Oliver Giroud was not in-form. The players then blazing the premier league were their Harry Kane, Salah, hazard, vardy etc. But did it stop france from calling him up for the world cup? And at the end what happened? He helped France won the world. He gave the team what the then in-form strikers like grizman and mbape couldn’t give. Everyone praised his link up play, his build up play and team world both off and on the ball. I mean his ability to help his team in defense and when they are not in possession of the ball. These can only come from experience.. Na wa for your kind of ex footballer..you think football is all about goals..Oga it shows that you will make a bad coach. Not all footballers can make a good coach anyway…

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Let me even not talk about the Roger Miller story cos it has been overemphasized on this forum but you won’t listen

  • Sanyke 2 years ago

It is the same thing Andrew Aikhoumogbe is saying, the era of Rohr this or that is over but it takes the fool to understand. What is important now is preparation for the games. Aikhoumogbe clearly pointed out that the NFF don’t have time for noise making but should rather do the right things that would enable the boys to be successful. This isn’t a rocket science.

    • M. Adams 2 years ago

If you read the thread carefully, you would find out he has problems with comprehension and doesn’t know how to factor into the dictates of time. Just watch, even on the day of our first match against the pharaohs of Egypt he will still be here making noise over SE coach Rohr. The aspect of what I want from our ex players like Andrew is how to get our team to play international friendlies so as to enable the players bond well. Hopefully the NFF is aware we have about 30 days to the competition.

      • Samuel 2 years ago

We actually have 35 days to the summit. Can we still play friendlies within the time frame?

        • M. Adams 2 years ago

Why not? The only snag would be not able to play gradeA countries because they would’ve negotiated with other serious countries.

  • This new Variant is somewhat causing some delays I think clubs also release players only 2 weeks before the tournament propper nothing sooner.

“Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe has appealed to the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to select players that will represent Nigeria at the fast approaching 2021 Africa Cup of Nations based on merit if the team must win the trophy”.

This is why Nigeria is struggling. If by now we are still pleading to our world class coach to select the best squad to represent Nigeria then NFF should be ashamed of themselves.

Sir, Mr. Andrew Aikhoumogbe, what did Oga Rohr do when he selected his best team at the last world cup and Afcon in Egypt?

This shows that having the best players to represent Nigeria is not the problem of the coach but using our best players/team in terms of tactics, strategies, game plan and making the right substitutions at the right time are the problems of the current Super Eagles coach, Mr. Gernot Rohr.

I am so sure of this that he can never change because he can not give what he doesn’t have.

Hmm. This is why we the core fans of the Super Eagles made it clear to the NFF that the gaffer and his boss Amaju should be replaced.

Shikena. No more no less. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • LARRY 2 years ago

Which fans? The fans of the Super Eagles of Nigeria or of another country?

      • DenkF 2 years ago

You will find out they have another country in mind. Just imagine an idiot saying Amaju should be replaced.

  • Sugar Daddy 2 years ago

I can honestly say that most of those calling for the head of Rhor are not Nigerians…go and mark it!!!!

    • @Sugar Daddy you are the only Nigerian here you are right. Just remember it is because of us that ur Beloved Victor Moses has been handed a much needed recall. it is also because of us that Rohr has no choice but to include Dennis and Awoniyi. If we were all Nigerians like you these players would not have been called back. So thank you and it is much appreciated!!!

  • Respect is Reciprocal 2 years ago

@sugardaddy to say those calling for the head of ROHR means you are denying the complexity of this platform. Why would you even think so that none Nigeria will come to this forum to discuss what concerns Nigeria for Nigerians and dictate to us. You really goofed. Am one of the people calling for ROHR sack and I know a lot of people are against that and many have given vital reasons why they feel he should not be sacked. So please retract that statement either for ROHR or Not For ROHR we all want the best for eagles

    • LARRY 2 years ago

@Respect is Reciprocal, that’s a cheap one. Where else will the discontent in the country being expressed if not on social media platforms? The ministry of sports needs to understand the earlier plans are in place to engage the Super Eagles in training and friendlies, the better. Andrew won my support for Coach Rohr to use tested players to prosecute the games.

      • Akanlo Ede 2 years ago

All these jingoistic tribalist thugs. I don’t even bother reading their epistle which hides their true intentions. Why I will respect people like @respectisrecipocal.

Some of us have carefully followed the different leagues scattered all over the globe and have come to be biased to the leagues in Europe for the simple reason that aside the fact that they offer our(Nigerian|Africa) players better exposure to the best tactical and technical aspect of the game that we have come to see as a uniting adhesive for us as a Country but also binds us all irrespective of the negative energies our political opportunists have thrown us,it clearly exhibits the best brand of the beautiful game.
I don’t want to enmesh myself with the issue of ‘Gernot Rohr’ for want of time…my honest opinion is that Pinnick Melvin Amaju who put us in this mess unfortunately is the only person who can get us out of it,anything other than this will fetch us a FIFA ban…
But we must bare in mind that his(Amaju) Presidency is less than one(1) year left,so we should not be in a hurry to give him the opportunity to plunge us into another Rohrlike contract again…
We can alternatively look for the monies owed the clown which we’re aware Amaju shares a percentage out of and cluster a cocktail of some of our best hands presently doing us proud all over the globe (Emmanuel Amuneke,Salish Yusuf, Ndubuisi Egbo and Finidi George…my Opinion) or swallow the bitter pill of going to next year’s AFCON in Cameroun with Rohr.

Based on the aforementioned, these are
my 23 man Eagles team list for AFCON 2022 in Cameroun

Also as I said more and more if Rhor dosen’t play with a drastic ,rigid with ferociuos and pressing pattern of playing on midfield and defence with a quality and rapturous and impassioned players who have soul and respect of home motto; he won’t lift African Nation cup in Cameroon next year; but if he plays and instructs his quality players who he selects with a tight tactics and with pattern of play I menssioned above, he will lift and this cup.I think he must play with 3-5-2 line-up as follows:- Okoye-Awaziem,Bassey,Omeruo-Ndidi,Azubiuki,Victor Moses, Simon moses,Iwobi-Osimhen,Sadiq Umar. Or with 4-2-3-1 line-up as follows:-Okoye-Aina,Awaziem,Bassey,Collins-Ndidi,Azubiuki-V.Moses,Samuel Chukwueze,Iwobi-Osimhen.
