Exclusive: Why Ndidi Must Step Up His Game At Leicester City –Babangida

Super Eagles winger, Tijani Babangida has advised Wilfred Ndidi to step up his game at Leicester City in a bid to maintain his dominance in the team.

While Ndidi returned to the Foxes’ starting lineup and was on for about an hour before he was replaced by Youri Tielemans, Iheanacho in the team’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool.

He later came on as a substitute for Nampalys Mendy in Leicester City’s 1-0 loss at home to Fulham on Tuesday.

Ndidi has had an injury-plagued season as limited the midfielder to making 13 appearances overall.

He has started in eight of his appearances across 18 fixtures and been used as a substitute on five occasions.

However, in a chat with Completesports.com, Babangida stated that Ndidi must ensure he keeps fit so as to regain his number one in the team.

“2022 was not really a good one for Ndidi considering the fact that he was plague by injury. However, I pray he keeps fit this term around in order to maintain his regular form in Leicester City.

“He’s a fighter and will definitely get back to his best.

The problem for Ndidi is football tactics around the midfield is changing. Today’s teams want a double pivot in midfield as defensive cover rather than one single defensive midfielder.
In a double pivot, you have two defensive midfielders but both require the ability to progress the ball(thru passing)and/or carry the ball(thru dribbles and drives) to the opposition’s final third. A double pivot works when both defensive midfielders alternate defensive and offensive responsibilities.

Ndidi’s problem is that he is mainly a static defensive midfielder, sitting in front of the back 4 and attempting to break up play through the middle. Ndidi is good defensively when his team is out of possession but he brings nothing offensively when his team has possession.
Unlike midfielders in a double pivot, he does not carry the ball forward into the opposition’s third and he does not pass or progress the ball into the opposition’s third.

I suspect he and Nacho have a maximum of two seasons left at Leicester before they’re transferred.

Al feteh needs them .this January.

  • @tristan, mine is that we should start looking away from the direction of some our se players now.

Those requirements you mentioned can only be gotten from players who aspire to be a modern day football player.

Ndidi is far better than most other Super Eagles midfielders.

  • He needs to leave the club for a new challenge. He has stayed for too long.
