Fabianski On The Mend After Hip Operation

West Ham joint-chairman David Gold has confirmed goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has undergone successful surgery on his torn hip muscle. Poland international Fabianski has been a standout performer since arriving at the London Stadium in June 2018 from Swansea City, making 45 Premier League appearances and keeping 10 clean sheets in the process.

Unfortunately for the 34-year-old, he was forced off in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on September 28 after suffering a hip problem and subsequent tests revealed surgery would be required to resolve the issue.

The shot-stopper, who started his senior career with Lech Poznan, is expected to be out of action for around three months but, on a positive, Gold confirmed the operation went well and Fabianski is on the road to recovery.

He wrote on Twitter: “Just to update you all, the surgery on Lukasz Fabianski’s hip went as planned this morning in London. He will hopefully be discharged later today. Speedy recovery Lukasz.”

Fabianski’s absence has thrust summer signing Roberto Jimenez into the action but he has yet to keep a clean sheet, having come on in that 2-2 draw against the Cherries before losing 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace.

The Spaniard, who signed a two-year contract after joining on a free transfer, does have competition for the number one position from 33-year-old Englishman David Martin, who also arrived at the London Stadium this summer.
West Ham, who are on a three-game winless run in all competitions, return to action on October 19 when they make the trip to Goodison Park to take on struggling Everton.

The Toffees are sitting inside the relegation zone ahead of the contest, having amassed just seven points from eight games and another defeat could spell the end of Marco Silva’s reign.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men won this fixture last season, running out 3-1 winners on Merseyside, but it was Everton who claimed the spoils in the most recent meeting between the two sides with a 2-0 success at the London Stadium in March.
