Farke Yet To Decide On Number One Keeper

Canaries boss Daniel Farke says he has not yet decided which of his three goalkeepers will go into the new season as his number one. New signing Ralf Fahrmann was the odd man out of the trio when Farke named his side for the most recent pre-season friendly – the 2-1 win over the new-boy’s former club Schalke – with Tim Krul starting and Michael McGovern coming on at half-time.

But the Norwich City manager says fans should not read too much into that with him yet to decide which of the three will be his first choice for the opening Premier League clash with Liverpool on August 9. He told Ruhr Nachtrichten: “No. It was important for us to get another goalkeeper with really good quality. And with Ralf we have done a very, very good deal. For me he is one of the best German goalkeepers. He proved for years at Schalke that he can deal with pressure situations.

“For him, it is nothing new to play in front of 60,000 spectators. His personality also makes him a great fit for the squad. We have an extremely experienced goalkeeper team with Ralf, Tim Krul and Michael McGovern – that’s where we are top.” And Farke revealed that Fahrmann’s situation at Schalke gave City the opportunity to swoop for a legend of the Bundesliga. He added: “His sporting situation on Schalke was difficult after losing his status as number one as a long-time captain and club legend. We have to be creative as a club. But we are far from buying the Bundesliga.”
