Fernandes Slams Man United Defence After Frustrating Draw vs Everton

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was left hugely frustrated and called out the Red Devils defence after they conceded a last-minute equaliser to draw 3-3 with Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United went in a half-time 2-0 up thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani and Fernandes, but were pegged back to 2-2 just minutes after the restart.

Scott McTominay headed in Luke Shaw’s setpiece to put them back ahead on 70 minutes, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck deep into injury time to earn a point for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The result means United have won just one of their last four Premier League games, and leaves them two points behind leaders Manchester City having played two matches more.

And speaking to Premier League Productions at full-time, Fernandes, who appeared to take aim at his team’s defence for the part they played in the draw.

“I think we gave away the result, we gave away the game twice,” he said.

“Because after being 2-0 up at half-time, coming into second half in the way we did, it’s really bad.

“We are conceding goals every game, we are conceding goals a lot of times and at home we concede too many goals.

“Too many bad results at home and this can’t be possible.

“I think we have to win this game after being 2-0 up, you have to win this game.

“It doesn’t matter how. You concede two goals and you come again and you score again.

“It’s impossible to concede another goal again, from a free-kick in the half of the pitch, we concede a goal from there and the way we concede.”

And when asked if the team may have already felt the game was won before Everton’s late goal, Fernandes added: “Maybe this was the problem, I don’t know. I don’t feel that, I don’t know what my team-mates feel but we can’t feel that until the game is over.

“And as you see we concede the goal in the last seconds of the game.”

United will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on West Ham in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

They will then return to Premier League duty the following Sunday with a trip to West Brom.
