National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated the Junior D’Tigress following their qualification to the quarterfinals of the FIBA U-18 Afrobasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Junior D’Tigress advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament after completing the group stage with a commanding 70-40 victory over Senegal.
The team opened the tournament with a 54-50 victory over Tunisia before narrowly losing 75-74 to Cameroon in overtime.
However, they responded strongly in their final group game, defeating Senegal by 30 points to finish second in Group C.
Reacting to the qualification the NSC wrote:”The National Sports Commission congratulates the Junior D’Tigress and looks forward to their continued progress in the championship.”
With the knockout stage ahead, Nigeria remains in contention for continental honours and a place at the 2027 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in China.
The two finalists of the U18 Women’s AfroBasket will earn qualification for the global tournament.
