Foden Shines In England Defeat

Foden Shines In England Defeat

Manchester City starlet Phil Foden put in another impressive performance for the England under-21s with senior boss Gareth Southgate in attendance.

England’s 18-match unbeaten run came to an end as Germany ran out 2-1 winners at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium last night, but there were some plus points, Foden being one of them.

Foden impressed with his silky skills all night and set up England’s equalising goal for Dominic Solanke.

Southgate is sure to have been impressed and it is only a matter of time before he gets the call up to the senior side.

U21s manager Aidy Boothroyd said: “We are disappointed because we want to win every game we play. It was a good test for us. It was two good teams having a go at each other. “It’s a horrible loss but we have to look at the positives.

I thought Phil Foden was exceptional and it was nice to see Dominic Solanke get on the scoresheet again.

Foden has a lovely weight of pass and he has so much talent. The more he plays with us, the better he will get.

No doubt about it.” The praise for Foden comes on the back of comments made by Michael Owen, who compared the skills of Foden to those of France legend Zinedine Zidane.
