Foden’s Solitary Winner Against Spurs Sends Man City Atop EPL

Foden’s Solitary Winner Against Spurs Sends Man City Atop EPL

Manchester City moved above title rivals Liverpool by one point after they pipped Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in Saturday’s Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium, reports Completesports.com.

Philip Foden scored the only goal of the encounter in the fifth minute via a header.

Spurs had their moments as they produced another strong performance, but the North London outfit remain in third place with four games to play ahead of the weekend’s remaining games.

The seven-goal thriller between the clubs in the Champions League earlier this week featured four goals in the first 11 minutes, and Spurs quickly set about trying to take an early lead.

Son Heung-Min was denied by Ederson in the 34th minute after he fired a shot from an acute angle.

City wasted no time in going in search of a second after the restart, and Spurs were required to make a number of timely blocks to prevent shots getting through to Gazzaniga.

Spurs had an appeal for a penalty when Dele Alli’s flick hit the arm of Kyle Walker, but the distance between the two players probably saved the right-back from gifting his former club a chance to net an equaliser.

City continued to pose a threat as the game entered the final quarter, and Sterling somehow failed to convert a cross from Leroy Sane as Gazzaniga stuck out a left to prevent the ball from finding the bottom corner.

Spurs’ best opportunity of finding an equaliser fell to Lucas Moura shortly afterwards, but Ederson again came to the rescue as he closed down the Brazilian to make another block.

Well taken goal by Foden. The English boy is developing nicely under Pep’s tutelage. It was his FIRST EVER premier league goal today, and it was celebrated by the English media as if he just won the ballon d’or. Not too long ago, Iheanacho was coming in from the bench and banging in goals for Man City, so much so that he had the highest goal per game ratio in the premier league that season. If Iheanacho was English, he most likely would have received an ENGLISH MEDIA AIDED invitation to the 3 Lions that season. Alas, Iheanacho is not English.
