Frankfurt Handed Star Stay Hope

Atletico president Miguel Angel Gil Marin has denied reports that the club has made an approach for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ante Rebic. The 25-year-old Croatia international forward has been linked with a 40 million euros move to the Wanda Metropolitano in this transfer window as the Spanish la Liga outfit are overhauling their striker options.

Antoine Griezmann is departing for Barcelona, while Diego Costa is also looking set to leave, while Atleti have spent 126m euros to sign 19-year-old Portuguese starlet Joao Felix this week. It was at the unveiling of the former Benfica star that Martin quelled speculation that they would be making a move to sign Rebic.

But, despite the Spanish side’s claims, Frankfurt are still expecting Rebic, who has scored 22 goals in 91 appearances since joining from Fiorentina in 2017, to depart after they failed to qualify for Champions League football next season. “It may be that [Rebic] is looking for a new challenge and wants to take the next step,” Frankfurt coach Adi Hutter said this week.
