Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has praised the team’s spirited display despite their 2-1 defeat to Portugal in Wednesday night’s international friendly at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria.
The three-time African champions delivered an encouraging performance against the Selecao, a significant improvement from their previous meeting, which ended in a 4-0 defeat.
Nigeria caused problems for the Portuguese defence with their movement and attacking intent in the first half, creating a number of promising chances.

“The first half was very difficult for us, but we managed to control it a bit. Portugal is very strong; four years ago we conceded four goals, now we conceded fewer, which was good,” the left-back was quoted by Portuguese website O Jogo.
Rooting For Portugal At The World Cup
Sanusi currently plies his trade in Portugal with Primeira Liga champions FC Porto.
The 28-year-old also revealed that he will be supporting Roberto Martinez’s side when they compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“I can’t say how far Portugal can go, but it’s my second country, so may they be world champions,” he added.
