Gerrard: What Balogun Will Bring To Rangers

Steven Gerrard has revealed what new signing and Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun will add to Glasgow Rangers, Completesports.com reports.

Balogun, 32, on Friday completed a one-year contract move to Rangers after departing relegated Wigan Athletic.

And Liverpool legend Gerrard believes Balogun’s experience will be a big addition to his side.

“I am pleased to secure the signature of Leon,” Gerrard said on Rangers’ official website.

“He is an experienced centre half who will add strength and depth to our squad.

“His experience in the Premier League as well as his international pedigree strengthens our squad and will assist in the development of our young defenders.

“Leon has just finished a round of competitive fixtures with Wigan so will hit the ground running. He’s a positive and bright character and we are looking forward to his influence around the group.”

After struggling for game time at Brighton and Hove Albion whom he joined in May 2018, Balogun signed for Wigan Athletic on 31 January 2020 on a six-month loan deal.

On 25 June 2020, he signed a short term permanent contract with the Latics until the end of the 2019–20 season.

  • A good one for you balogun, you have 200m Nigerian praying for you.

Chai! See prayers answering for Balogun o. From Bench at lowly Brighton to Game changer at Wigan with regular game time and now off to Rangers where he will play in Europe this season and the next.

Take a look at Gerard’s statement: “Leon has just finished a round of competitive fixtures with Wigan so will hit the ground running…” Meaning we might just see Rangers play the away fixture against Bayern Leverkusen next month.

Also we now have our Nigerian brothers at Rangers in Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun and Bassey

The best thing that can happen to any footballer on earth is to play for Nigeria…imagine 200m people praying for you…??? Ask the likes of Balogun, Ighalo and Kanu. I can imagine what Balogun’s coaches and team-mates at B&H would be feeling seeing Balogun play in Europe next season…something most of them will ever experience in their entire footballing careers….Lolz.
Conversely, hurt those 200m Nigerian fans in anyway and see your career go down the soakaway…..ask the likes of Kaita, Yakubu, Aiyenugba and some fake guadiolas like that.

    _BALOGUN THE MINISTER OF DEFENCE_

Still in the euphoria of Balogun’s move to Rangers FC. I took a stroll on Rangers FC Official Facebook page and from there I got on to Wigan Athletic Facebook page to see what the fans have got to say about Balogun. Sincerely speaking, comments I saw there as regards to BALOGUN were just mind blowing. It really made me felt proud and happy BALOGUN is a Nigerian. Someone (A white) was even telling others on the page to go and browse “The Nigeria Oyinbo wall”, saying he formed one of the best Modern day Center back pairing with Troost…I was amazed. Here are some comments I copied. Hope we all enjoy it and get to appreciate our players more.

@David Whalley – Wigan fan here, he was quality when he came to us, calm on the ball and plays out from the back. He undoubtedly brought Kipre’s game to another level without a doubt so any young player playing next to him will benefit. Cracking signing for Rangers.

@Wigan Athletic – All the best to Leon and Rangers 💙
Leon was an outstanding player and representative of our football club during his brief spell here

@Liam Horrocks – Youve have made a class signing, he was the player that turned out season around all the best Leon

@Gary McMilan – With Katic and Helander out with injuries this is a signing that was needed to bolster us in central defence
@Ash breccroftt – Absolutely unreal at Wigan during his time there. A rock of a defender, genuine class signing.
@Ray Jay – Wigan fan here, he was fantastic for us during his brief time here, he will be a great addition I’m sure.
@Chris Kelly – 30 caps at international level. 32yr old tall strong defender. We signed davie weir for that reason at alot older and he certainly done a job. Was highly rated at wigan and will provide bags of experience. Canny always sign wee boys when its a mans game. Katic edmunson are very young goldson plays like a young lad at times so we need helander and this boy to help these guys along. Its a shrewd signing

Then WIGAN ATHLETIC posted this on there Facebook page – All our best to Leon Balogun at Rangers FC
An outstanding representative of our club during his brief time at the DW Stadium, we’re sure you’d all agree

    Then the Comments…
@Worthington Worvy – Was solid as a rock him and kipre where immense all the best pal u did us proud
@Thomas Tassoulas – Mans was the calmest CB I’ve seen at the club in 15 years, definitely turned Kipre into a better player
@Anton Lowe – Quality signing. Better than rangers this lad
@Robert Litherland – Sad to see go quality player
@Peter Gregory – You have got yourself a true gem quality player so gutted we have lost him
@John Chunk Holland – Great signing for rangers be easy best centre back in that league

Balogun is by far the most intelligent CB we’ve had in the SE since Uche Okechukwu. A Taribo-esque type of defence partner (if Troost-Ekong can become one) will see our Oyinbo wall come back to life

Happy for Leon. With hardwork and a positive attitude Jes been able to move to a bigger club. Snd he’s also going to Europe competition as well . Great news .

All Bukayo Saka will be wearing the jersey number 7 by next season . Great news . I hope to see him in the SE soon

    • Hi guys
I celebrate Leon. I really do. The lesson here is “always have and keep the right attitude”. This was exemplified by Balogun, especially when it was like his career both in club and country was going down the tracks.
I also want to do a shout out to our father figure in person of Gernot Rohr in instilling confidence, self worth and pride in these boys at the same time not compromising standard.
Once again congratulations to Leon and all genuine super Eagles fans.
