2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Getting Sacked As Super Eagles Coach Doesn’t Scare Me -Rohr

2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Getting Sacked As Super Eagles Coach Doesn’t Scare Me -Rohr

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has insisted that he’s not afraid of been fired by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if he fails to qualify Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup..

The German tactician is expected to lead Nigeria’s qualification charge for the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on September 4 before facing Cape Verde three days later.

However, in an interview with Elegbete TV, Rohr stated that the NFF and Nigerians can judge him base on his result with the Super Eagles.

“When I was coming to Nigeria, I signed that the job is done if I don’t qualify for the World Cup, the second time I also signed that the job will be done if I don’t qualify for the AFCON and the third time I agreed that the job is done if we don’t do well at the AFCON,” Rohr told Elegbete TV.

“You can only stay in a country if the results are good, you have to go if it isn’t. Some coaches won’t but I agreed.”

I remember when genart rohr was about to sign his first contract ,he did say that they should fire him if he doesn’t qualify us for W.C,he churned out great results and no one criticed him,I even took pictures with him at a coca cola organized events in EKO HOTELS in 2017,and told him that I appreciate his efforts.i really don’t know what changed that he suddenly became afraid of virtually every team in Africa and damaged the confidence of the team and his own confidence.we might struggle to qualify for world cup this time or might even miss out .

    • @Michel.. I think I remember that picture you took with him. You look exactly like your comment.
Is it a crime to be humble? Like 4-5 years now, that’s how this man has been talking to the media respecting all the opponents yet, he has never missed any tournament.Where’s Zambian coach that promised to beat us Home and away back then? What of South African coach that his only achievement for South Africa was beating Nigeria at home during the qualifier? You people don dey force this man to talk small small as u go get mind dey challenge /rubbish am without pay.

      • Presh 3 years ago

You said well. Nigerians are ungrateful people thats why the country will never ever move up. Rohr I appreciate you. Your work ethics, under a useless administrative people.

        • @presh your childish comment is out of this world, having said that, those that wishes Nigeria not to move forward or achieve her God destined greatness shall live to witness her Greatness with their very eyes because none of you are God alright, Nigerians are ungrateful people simply because they wishes the best for their country isn’t? When everybody begin to talk bad about you” then it’s because you aren’t good, so for individuals like you, to qualify super Eagles is a big achievement and that’s all the team should wish for isn’t? is it not individuals like Genre Rohr that qualified Nigeria for afcon and won the cups? Again, Was their salaries up to that of Rohr today? Wasn’t it a man like Rohr that qualified Nigeria for Olympics and won? This man qualified Nigeria and caused us to have a shameful exits from virtual every tournaments and you said Nigerians are ungrateful simply because they wish the best for their country, go check yourself who ever you are because you are the ungrateful and evil here!!!

    • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

What makes you think that he has suddenly became afraid of every team in Africa?? And how has he damaged the confidence of the team and himself?? What an irony!! He agreed that if he doesn’t meet the targets set for him by the NFF that he should be fired. So far he has qualified for 3 straight major tournaments. Obviously, we as fans want to see the team win something, but we easily forgot where we’re coming from.

His team has only been to the WorldCup and the AFCON after missing two straight AFCONS. Most of the players he has put faith on have been growing in confidence over the past two seasons. Our players are not just making up the numbers in European clubs, but are actually playing regularly in their clubs over the course of GR tenure. Aliou Cisse has been the coach of Senegal for the same period Rohr has been the coach of Nigeria and the AFCON in Cameroon will determine wish team have come of age.

You can underestimate this SuperEagles at your own peril. As far as I’m concerned I’m seeing a SuperEagles generation writing their own history. Nigeria is one of the top countries in the world with the highest number of youths(Thats people between the ages of 18 and 40 at most). Therefore, I’m expecting something great from this generation of SuperEagles for at least a decade to come. I’m sure we will get all 3 points against Liberia at home, that’s non negotiable. Although I’m kinda wary about the away tie in Praia Cape Verde, but I’m confident we’ll get a favorable result away. We can only wish them the best and see how well they’ve improved as a team. VAMOS ARIBBA SUPEREAGLES!!!!!

      • Michel 3 years ago

You mentioned aliou cisse being in charge of Senegal for more than five years just like rohr, remember that cisse earns lesser than rohr and has achieved more than rohr,he got silver at the last Afcon, qualified for second round of the world cup ,has been defeating rohr each time they meet us ,they also outplay us

        • Greenturf 3 years ago

Yeah but Cisse is yet to win a trophy or has he?

          • Ako AMADI 3 years ago

Cisse has not won anything yet beyond first place in FIFA rankings for Africa.

        • @ Michel, Senegal dropped out of World Cup in the group stage via FIFA fare play rule Go back and check.

        • Chukwuka Obiosa 3 years ago

I don’t remember Senegal defeating Nigeria, the last two games ended in draws

        • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

          Hehehehehe…..Cisse achieved more than Rohr….LMAOoo.

Cisse didn’t inherit a team that didn’t qualify for AFCON back to back, he didn’t inherit a team that was ranked 16th in Africa…… he inherited a team that has had the best collection of players on this continent for 10 years running.

Senegal (and Tunisia) has been alternating between no 1 and no 2 on the continent on the FIFA ladder for close to a decade now. He crashed out of 2017 AFCON in the Qfinals and lost in the 2019 AFCON finals to the same Algeria we lost to in the 96th minute of the semifinals, he couldnt qualify such a talented squad from a group that has Japan, Poland and Colombia at the world cup and to you “he has achieved more than Rohr”….LMAOOoo.

Even till today we still dont have the quantity and quality of players Senegal has had and currently have at the moment….from goalkeeper down to the man upfront…..LMAOOoo….from Chelsea to Liverpool to PSG to AC Milan, to Napoli to Barcelona to Lyon. Lets not even mention those in less prestigious clubs like Villareal, Monaco, Leicester city, Rennes, Crystal Palace or Real Betis.
Please where are our own players playing..? Our biggest players are playing in Napoli, Villareal and Leicester city, yet we placed 3rd (at first attempt) at the same tournament Cisse placed 2nd (in his second attempt) and to you he has “achieved more”……LMAOOOoo.

With the calibre of players Senegal has churned out in the last 5-10 years, they shouldn’t be going into 2021 AFCON without having won nothing……even the 2021 AFCON, Senegal are still not undisputed overwhelming favorites to win it…..even though they have ZERO reason not to win it. But guess what, their FA are not owing Cisse….They are not owing his players…they are not moving them from city to city like a herd of cattle looking for grazing lands…..they are not forcing home-based players on him……they are not threatening him with sack on daily basis…..jobless ex-internationals are going on national dailies to disparage him. Rather he is being supported with everything he needs to succeed.

But you, what are you doing to the person who picked you up from the gutters to a step just behind this same dreaded Senegal…??? Even his salary that he gets owed up to 6 months per annum, your sports ministry summarily shortchanged him by 40% of its value by instructing the CBN not to allow him exchange it at official rates so he will be forced to approach black markets…while they get their own allowances and estacodes from same CBN at official rates…and to you that’s the best way to treat an employee you are expecting to succeed…..LMAOOoo

The only times we have played Senegal, both friendlies, we played 1-1 in the first time we met and lost 0-1 the second time….so how is that “defeating Rohr each time they meet us
and outplaying us”….LMAOOoo. Pls show us the match stats for both games that shows we were outplayed…..LMAOOOo.

Really, people have to turn facts upside down because they are looking for every means to undermine Gernot Rohr….? LMAOOooo.
So much hatred for a humble man who has been going about his job and getting results that matter without drama.

Just like I said before, 2022 is around the corner when Rohr’s contract will expire and leave…..we will see the next coach that will be hired that will never draw or lose matches……LMAOOoo. Unfortunately at the moment, Rohr’s contract and numbers gives him an unshakable protection against his detractors…..that’s why the want to run mad everyday they wake up and see he is still SE coach…..LMAOOoo

But those who are fighting day and night, stifling and polluting his work environment, to bring down Rohr should know that there’s no way they can bring him down without bringing down our SE too…..LMAOoooo. Our destinies are tied together till he leaves.

          • bishop 3 years ago

i really wish you made your comments without prejudices. your Rohr defense is heading fanatical – the extent to which you don’t want ANY KIND OF CRITICSM. with due regards to him and respect for what he has achieved, that doesn’t mean he should not improve. What we have in raw talents right now if better managed will scare teams in Africa.

          • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Have I told any lie up there…? If yes, point it out…if no why does my comments burn your heart like acid….LMAOOoo. The truth really hurts…I know that….and it is surely hurting folks like you badly….LMAOooo. And I am loving it.

What raw talents do you have now that you’ve never had before…? What raw talents do you have now that you didnt have when you couldn’t qualify for 3 out of 4 afcons on a trot….? Do you have the volume of talents Senegal has…? What teams in Africa are not scared of playing Nigeria at the moment….even Algeria are.

You want a coach to improve and you owe his team for 2 years, owe him months of unpaid salaries every year, and when you eventually pay you ensure he gets shortchanged to the tune of 40% by intentionally instructing the CBN not to issue him forex, but you get forex for yourself and your concubines as estacodes from the same CBN……and you want the coach to improve.

May you own employers owe you, shortchange you and at the same time be asking you to improve….pls say AMEN to that…..LMAOOooo

        • Jones 3 years ago

Cisse is not owed salary tho

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Weldone….”Rohr damaged the confidence of the team after the world cup”…..yet in the same period his team qualified for both AFCONs with games to spare, producing the top scorer in the series on both occasions.

“Rohr damaged the confidence of the team after the world cup”….yet his team has won 13 drawn 3 and lost just 2 out of a possible 18 competitive games afterwards picking 77% of possible no of points in the process.

“Rohr damaged the confidence of the team after the world cup”….yet overall his team has won 18 drawn 8 and lost 5 of 27 contested games afterwards (picking 62% of possible no of points) with most of the dropped games coming in friendlies where we have hardly lined up our most competitive squads possible)

Rohr has indeed “damaged the confidence of the team” after the world cup.

Your previous coaches must have been scoring 100% in all games contested.

Dont worry, 2022 is around the corner when Rohr’s contract will expire and leave…..we will see the next coach that will be hired that will never draw or lose matches……LMAOOoo

Sack a man you owe 7 months wages and FIFA will have something to say about that. Pinnick should be sacked from whatever positions he has at CAF and FIFA and Nigeria suspended.

  • Sunnyb 3 years ago

Why now Nigeria? for the coach to say this publicly I’m sure a lot of shit is happening underground, that’s why Rohr called up Odunlami to pleased them, threatening to fire the coach a week before our first qualifying game sound dumb and sabotaging, these goons needs to sell players but their players are not marketable that’s not Rohr’s fault. Mexico easily exposed them and their Yeye players, I knew the combination of Calamity Eguavoen, Aigbgun,Dare and Pinnick would always be a disaster. Folks by the way,I’m not a big Rohr’s fan, but is wrong trying to fire the guy now.Why waiting till the last minute before threatening the guy with sack letter.

Only people can understand the reason why something like is happening to our football.

You don’t seeing what am seeing.

Let me break it down one by one in a simple way.

No1. How old his Oga Rohr now? The more you get older the more the fear and the lack of confidence would be. We have doctors on this forum, we should ask them. Hopefully, they will tell us the truth.

No2. For any coach to make a statement like this, don’t expect nothing from the manager. The chances are very slim to qualify Nigeria to the next year world cup when Nigeria have capable team to beat any team? So, It’s 50/50 chance for Oga Rohr and he is not confident enough to the extent that he can make the ticket and he has already putting phobia and panic on his team.

No3. Oga Rohr is not good enough to continue with the team. Mikel fought the gaffer at the last Afcon in Egypt according to the news I read. Mikel was quarrel with the coach telling him that Super Eagles were disjointed and not playing good football. Balogun also not pleased with the tactics of the manager.

No4. Oga Rohr would have bn fired after the world cup but NFF/Amaju were manipulators and they retained him for their own interests.

No5. @Michel, God bless you more for saying the bitter truth.

“I remember when genart rohr was about to sign his first contract ,he did say that they should fire him if he doesn’t qualify us for W.C,he churned out great results and no one criticed him,I even took pictures with him at a coca cola organized events in EKO HOTELS in 2017,and told him that I appreciate his efforts.i really don’t know what changed that he suddenly became afraid of virtually every team in Africa and damaged the confidence of the team and his own confidence.we might struggle to qualify for world cup this time or might even miss out”.

No6. Oga Rohr followers, there’s nothing wrong if you guys choose to follow the gaffer but don’t follow him blindly.

We are not Togo, Madagascar or even Cape Verde, no disrespect to these countries. Even lesser countries that hired the gaffer before Nigeria had to released the coach not to talk of Nigeria.

Upon having variety of fantastic players available to choose from and sounding like this as a coach is not encouraging and it is very bad to hear this coming out of Oga Rohr’s mouth.

Fellow Nigerians, it is too late to fire Oga Rohr now because the world cup qualifiers will soon begin and we don’t have time to do the talking now.

If he qualify Nigeria to the next world cup good but Afcon tournament will definitely decide his fate. If he does well in that tournament absolutely he should go to the world cup but if he doesn’t, he should be fired immediately. We hire and we fire. It is simple as that. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • You know one thing I like about you? (And I think I speak for a good number of forumites – even though I don’t agree with some of your arguments). Your resilience. You’re not fazed about the number or size of opposition; all the gbas gbos. You’re resolute with your views and always try to deliver them with no rancour or temptation to mudsling. Funny 🙂 but admirable.

With regard to Rohr and the SE, one would be forgiven to think a certain steam is gone or diminished. All these kinds of side talks from the gaffer looks like smokes from undercurrent politics fans are still in the dark about. Player invitation, selections, camping etc have been lethargic.

For a national coach to skip leading his team to a friendly cos they’re not his A materials speaks volumes. Some would say the boycott, shoddy arrangement and eventual waste of time in Mexico was deliberate sabotage to kill off the local talent development argument. That’s how a politician thinks and the kind of thing they can do.

Then the CHAN team? He doesn’t give a hoot either. But then, maybe his contract allows him to skip those responsibilities and it’s probably why Pinnick is handicapped cos of the heavy penalties he could be slammed with by FIFA. In any case, Rohr o, Philipe Trousier o, Bora Militunovic o, Bonfrere o and others, Westerhof remains the best. He was so transparent, committed and passionate they called him the Dutchgerian. Of course, it helped that he had direct access to VP Aikhomu then.

        Thanks for the compliments Kel.
I stand for the truth, am for the truth and anything that will benefit Nigerians and Nigeria. Together, we will build our Super Eagles to our taste. It shall be well it us all by God’s grace. God bless Nigeria!!!

Rohr is not in the league of coaches who should be handling Super Eagles… Nigeria remain his biggest project so far. He is not afraid of sack if Super Eagles does not qualify for World Cup. Who will even need him after a poor next Afcon 2022?

    • Ayphillydegreat 3 years ago

After a poor next AFCON 2022?? You’re predicting doom already and I bet you will be disappointed. A coach that have qualified Nigeria for 3 straight major tournaments is not worthy of coaching the SuperEagles because our players are playing for ManU, ManCity, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, Madrid, Atletico, Juve, Inter, AC Milan, Bayern, Dortmund and the likes abi?? Napoli is the only big club our poster boy plays for. And maybe Sanusi at Porto a big club but not in the top 5 leagues. Gladly most of the players he has assembled plays in the top 5 leagues. I can guarantee you that if we perform well in Cameroon which is absolutely certain. I’m sure most of our boys will attract big clubs going into the WorldCup. It is only those who are blinded by sentiments and prejudice that will not have faith in this team. Underestimate the SuperEagles under Rohr at your own peril.

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahaha……The league of coaches who should be handling Super Eagles ran away when NFF gave them a target of qualifying for WC and Semifinals of 2019 AFCON……LMAOOOoo.

They said it was an outright impossibility……there’s no way in hell a team ranked 70th in the world and 16th in Africa (where their African Guadiola counterparts dumped us) should dream of reaching such heights within 2-3 years……LMAOOOo. Oliseh called all of us INSANE for expecting “So Much”

Rohr, the humble gentleman (who is not in the league of coaches who should be handling Super Eagles) was recommended to us by Arsene Wenger to save us the global disgrace meted to us by those in the league of coaches who should be handling Super Eagles……..I dont need to tell you what happened next.

The fact that draws now taste like losses in our mouth and that we even feel we should be the champions of Africa in 2022 vindicates what the old man us brought to the table.

2022 is around the corner when Rohr’s contract will expire and leave…we will see what the next coach who would be in the league of coaches who should be handling Super Eagles….who will be owed for an average of 6 months per annum, his team owed for 2 years and with players imposed on him…will bring to the table. LMAOOoo.

Even Berti Vogts and Lars Lagerback cant boast to reaching the heights Rohr has taken us from the lows he picked us from.

And for those praying for a “Poor AFCON” for us in 2022….they should pls continue their prayers. Its typical for blacks with black brains to cut their noses to spite their faces.

Some people would not mind us sinking back to 70th in the world and not qualifying for AFCON back to back once again just to make sure they see the back of G.Rohr…..LMAOOoooo.

  • By the grace of Almighty God. I’m taking note of certain names on this platform to be mentioned and tagged with calamity or praises after Rohr leaves. Very interesting. God bless Nigeria

  • God'sown 3 years ago

That was how they tongue lashed Philip Trousier, that they had to employ another coach close to a world cup. I believe Trousier would have done better had he been the one who took Nigeria to the world cup.

    • Coache 3 years ago

My brother you cannot compare GR with Troussier. Go and watch Nigeria vs Guinea World cup qualifier in Lagos and understand tactics before France 98.

No more Moses ooooo, to help GR

      • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

        What lie lie tactics…..LMAOOo.

Nigeria vs Guinea and you are talking tactics. A team which had only qualified for 1 AFCON between 1981 and 1997. A game we won by 2-1 is your own reference point for Troussier’s tactical prowess…LMAOOO.

Rohr defeated Algeria 3-1, walloped AFCON defending champions 4-0, beat Zambia 2012 champions 1-0 and qualified for World cup with 5 points lead and a game to spare…..So what exactly is your point…? LMAOOOo.

Maybe Rohr didnt apply “tactics” in those matches…..LMAOOoo.

  • Larry 3 years ago

There is no need to be worried or afraid because the conditions in your contract are very clear.
The fact that ACN will be concluded before the WC qualifier makes it really easy for proper evaluation.
Current SE players are the best we’ve had in decades. With the right tactical approach and players selection, currently available SE team should be in the final of ANC and win the trophy.
The big boss didn’t have these options, he worked under very challenging conditions but was able to get it right.
Belmadi’s boy can get it right by first firing that ethnic bigot Alloy Agu and get at least two affordable tacticians with strong mentality (Eguavoen and Rufai) on the team.
Imagine, the most inform striker and GK is not in the team list. How do you create competition when you don’t apply same rules for all players.
No need to be afraid, your contract takes care of everything

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

HAhahahaha….proponents of 4/5 = 95% contract are now weeping and gnashing their teeth…..LMAOOooo

“…Belmadi’s boy can get it right by first firing that ethnic bigot Alloy Agu and get at least two affordable tacticians with strong mentality (Eguavoen and Rufai) on the team…”

It is not Belmadi’s boy’s duty to hire or fire…it is the NFF’s.

Since it was you and your liars united NFF listened to when they drafted your 4/5 = 95% contract that is now the root of all evil befalling our dear national team now, and also stripped the national team of its entire back room staff…..please do well to go back and tell them to reinstate the retinue of entire backroom staff a national team like SE deserves…..tell them to fire their useless houseboy whom they forced on us as Asst Coach of the SE….tell them to also pay up all the players and coaches are owed – 2 YEARS in bonuses, 7 MONTHS in salaries and frozen forex channels for the coach. Only to whom much is given should much be expected from.

If they cant do all these they should just pay off the man’s $2m and sack him…..LMAOOOo….and his replacement that will never draw or lose matches MUST WIN in Cameroon….QED…..LMAOOOo

      • It is beginning to Sounds Like you are the Ethnic Biggot, What wrong has Alloy Agu done The only. Igbo’s and cross rivers have produced the best, goal keepers to dawn the Green White Green Lol sop hating. We need not name a certain Carl Ikeme who if the unfortunate illness did not end his career. and what is wrong with Maduka Okoye he and Francis Uzoho are the best we have now ooops Lolz they are all Igbo HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!!!. My Basket Akpeyi is uselesss yes but he is still better than your yakubu ,Lawal and co HAHAHAHA Dele alampasu LOOLLL!!!

Fool…not only are you senseless, you also cannot read. Go back and read the quote again and trace where it came from and stop looking for cheap attention.
          Iberibe.

  • Lets face it for me Rohr’s hasn’t done anything amazing with average teams such as Gabon, Niger, Chad etc. Where as lets look at Herve Renard took an average Zambia team at the time in 2012 and won Afcon. Go look at his interviews he never once doubted his players when they came up against a star studded Ivory Coast. Infact he spoke big of them their courage and their Abilities knowing full well Ivory coast were parading the likes of Drogba, Toure Yaya and Kolo Toure as well as Eboue I could go on and On. Where as we have a coach Rohr parading arguably one of the Best team on Paper in Africa. and he is still elevating an Egypt side over us which frankly without Salah are not a threat. Thats the Difference is mentality and belief and you can see it rubbing of on players in our team that are regarded as some of the best in their postions internationally. that is the difference you give Herve Renard a team with Abumayeng as Rohr had when he was coach of Gabon and, he will win the Afcon.

So yes Rohr Must go if he continues with this inferiority complex when he plays teams like Egypt, Tunisia or Cameroon who we are stronger than because, if it is mind games then he must change his tactics because it is not working!. Rohr once again your young team excuse will not work We know how strong our players are so you are not fooling us. WIN the AFCON and qualify SE for World Cup and reach At least Quarter Finals, Because as NIgerians we cannot and I will repeat CANNOT accept that our biggest rivals. Senegal, Ghana and Camerron have achieved World Cup Quarters and we haven’t. It is time now NO MORE YOUNG TEAM EXCUSES YOU HAVE ONE OF IF NOT THE BEST TEAMS IN AFRICA NOW.

    • Nigeria pay your igbese abeg. What rubbish. How many people with family here can actually work for 7 months without salary. Haba! Rubbish country. Abeg motivation is what the coaches and players need right now. Enough is enough

      • @Ayo Bros na Arica we dey, With the exception of Maybe South Africa every Coach on this continent is working with the same Non pay situation for a certain period. It is not an excuse.

I think Herve Reanrd for eg. faced similar problems in Zambia and Ivory Coast respectively. That shouldn’t be an excuse because they also, get a lot of gifts and bonuses from Individuals. who bless and spoil them when they bring them joy as our beloved SE does when they win. NO excuse Bros I am sorry. I am sure he must have had same issues coaching in Niger etc.

  • I think by the time AFCON and world Cup ( Based on Achievement at AFCON .Objective: WIN Trophy). World Cup because I believe that if he wins or goes out in the Final on Shoot out. He should be given the opportunity to carry on the momentum into the World cup.

So by the time Afcon is come and gone Rohr’s work should be assessed and from there if he is deemed fit to lead us to World Cup then so be it. However i feel NFF are within there right to asses him and his technical crew ( lol which they employ) after these international friendlies. Rohr has been in charge of the team for 5 years or so now and, in any business transaction 5 years is normal to gauge the out put and productivity of an employee after such a period of time and see if it was a success or not. That been said, if we are to be honest to ourselves whether his tenure has been a success is an answer that is truly up in the air and one that rightfully has people( fans of Rohr and Critics) on both side of the fence

  • If u dont want Rohr then sack him, ungrafell People, even the best coach come to Eagles u will still complain over and over again that is why we are not moving forward in Nigeria today
